classical music

I wonder does the board think that classical music on cd is also a topic which could be discussed on this forum. It is after all a performing art is it not?

While an occasional "What do you think about the new Harnoncourt Messiah?" post is fine, our mission is to discuss classical ballet from the audience's point of view, and we have had many discussions on ballet music released (or not) to CD. We have small, limited forums for other performing arts, and some rousing discussions about them, particularly film, but that will never be our raison d'etre. Also, the posters who do discuss other arts contribute to ballet discussions as well.

One of the practical issues with discussing classical music CD's is that, unlike ballet DVD's and tapes, which are small in number and where each new release is eagerly awaited, there are so many of them that it's unlikely that many, if any, of our posters will know any given recording. There are many discussion sites that are dedicated to discussing classical music and opera live performances and recordings, where there is a critical mass of people who can contribute to the discussion, often in the context of historical recordings.

Thank you for the answer you gave me, and off cause you are right in that there are plenty of discussion sites, but none alas with the same quality as ballettalk

That's very kind of you to say, walboi. It's true -- there are many boards out there where you can chat, but not all of them keep to a certain standard, unfortunately. And thanks to Helene for the detailed explanation of our local customs.

If on occasion you hear a new classical recording, or hear a concert that provoked thought, by all means share it with us.
