balletcaliente
I am looking for specific music... Girls with lilies. The girls that come into to Julieet's bedroom on her suposed weding day to Paris. I have seen the production many times and tLOVE that music. The music used for girls with lilies is different on the 2 recordings I have, not at all what is used in the ballet. The one I want sounds like it might be a mandolyn?? Any ideas where I can get it? Helene
balletcaliente, Welcome to Ballet Talk! Would you tell us what company and choreographer you saw? Link to comment
rg
this sounds like john cranko's staging of ROMEO AND JULIET - tho' i suppose any number of other choreographers have kept this music in its place (in the act 3 scene set in juliet's bedroom). macmillan's widely seen staging uses the 'aubade' (see below) in his act 1 ballroom scene for juliet to play for her friends (with an intrusion on the part of romeo). still as pointed out here, until we know what version is under discussion a more clear answer is less likely. (just checked my CD - DECCA - and there are back-to-back numbers/tracks that i think are related here: track 21 on my disc 2 of this set is #21 (and corresponds to No. 48 in the score: "Aubade"; track 22, corresponding to No. 49 in the score is called: DANCE OF THE GIRLS WITH LILIES" i think it's the AUBADE that's being sought here. it should appear on any complete recording, in act 3, where prokofiev placed it. hope this helps.
