Alexandra
Thanks, Ari. Wow. That really fits in with the Kennedy Center's "theme" this year of the 1940s, doesn't it? (Actually, I'm glad we're getting more of a cross-sampling of what New York gets, so that's not a complaint. But why have a Seasons Theme and then not choose repertory to match it? ABT is giving us the 1920s and the 1840s/90s a la 2005.) Link to comment
Dale
They kind of spoiled it last trip by performing Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2 and Concerto Barocco -- 1940s ballets that would have been perfect for this season. For the second year in a row, D.C. is picking up rep. already around from the Winter season. But they could have picked Orpheus, which was made in 1948 and being performed this Winter. Ari
The first program can be seen as a 40s evening. The two Balanchine ballets are from the 40s, and while I'm Old Fashioned was made in the 80s, it was inspired by a 1940s movie and evokes the period. Link to comment
