Watermill
Christopher Stowell's hearing music. And it sounds like a million bucks -- or at least $85,000. That's how much Oregon Ballet Theatre has raised to pay musicians' wages for a full-scale orchestra in its next production. "We're having 58 musicians in the pit for the whole darned show," OBT's artistic director said. "Which was a struggle, and came together at the last minute. We're thrilled about it." This is really great news from OBT. I was positively cringeing at the thought of Firebird to canned music. Christopher Stowell continues to have an impressive first year as AD. The OBT board is to be congratulated for showing such major support for his aesthetic priorities.
Helene
I wish I had such hopes for Masters and Moderns. Maybe they'll be able to swing for a piano and violin for Duo Concertant, and maybe the piano for the Chopin Mazurkas for There Where She Loved.
