dirac
In the November 24 issue of The Nation, I see by the TOC that there is a piece by Lynn Garafola called "Diaghilev in Perm." I haven't yet had a chance to read it but will comment when I do. It is unavailable online. Link to comment
Alexandra
Thanks for that -- I didn't know about that one, and will now be able to look for it. Link to comment
dirac
Garafola reports on an arts festival honoring Diaghilev in Perm, his hometown, and also comments on the general state of ballet and dance since the fall of the Soviet Union. She also talks about the city's opera company and art gallery -- plenty of cultural activity in Perm, evidently. (The Perm State Ballet performed an all-Balanchine program consisting of Apollo, Ballet Imperial, and La Sonnambula, in addition to Chopiniana, Le Spectre de la Rose, Les Sylphides, and The Sleeping Beauty.) A fairly long piece, well worth looking up. Link to comment
