Effy
A few words on the repetoire: The Wish was danced by Greve and Gitte Lindström a few years back. Nomads has also been in the repetoire with Tina Højlund as the female lead. Neumeier Adagetto was performed mostly as part of his Mahler Ballet but sometimes as a galla piece. It was the one where Arlene Croce reviewed as Middleaged dancers dance when it was made for Erick Bruhn and Makarova. It has been danced ny Schandorff and Greve last time around. Claire Henriksen is Claire Still, who got married recently Link to comment
Alexandra
Thanks for that, Effy -- I wondered who Claire Henrikson was. Tina Hojlund was on leave for part of last season. Is she with the company full-time this year? Link to comment
aspirant
Hojlund is indeed performing full time this season. I'm looking forward to seeing her in Serenade this week. Link to comment
Alexandra
Thanks, aspirant! To me, that's good news. She's a very musical dancer (and I like her style in Bournonville -- she doesn't mince the steps, she MOVES). Link to comment
Leigh Witchel
Which role will she dance? I can see her in either the Tema Russo or the Waltz, where she would be lovely in a completely unBalanchine way. But my prejudice in the centennial year would be to see companies with a strong native style do pieces like Serenade their way. It's more than sturdy and ripe enough to handle it. What fun to see a Paris Serenade, one in the RDB style, the Kirov style, English. . . Link to comment
Effy
Strangely enough it looks like she is cast as the third girl The angel, whereas the Russian girl is danced by Diana Cuni, who is not as strong or as vibrant a dancer as højlund Link to comment
aspirant
Cuni was nothing but impressive last Saturday in Serenade. She has an enormous movement quality for such a 'little' dancer and also quite a lovely stage presence. She and Hojlund also danced the demi roles in Piano Concerto later than evening side by side. Effy
I am pleased to learn that Cuni was a "right" choice for the part. I will look forward to see her. Could you also give more impressions from the "scond" casts af all three ballets as we cannot catch them before january Link to comment
