Colorado Ballet loses its home (temporarily)

Recommended Posts

Last year Denver voters passed a bond issue to completely rehabilitate the hundred year-old Auditorium Theatre. Designed as a general purpose auditorium/theatre, it's never been a particularly good place to perform, and it is badly showing its age. The stage is way too high, so the first three rows can't see the dancers' feet. It's a giant barn of a building that echoes badly. The rebuilding affort will leave the exterior facade, but gut the interior space, completely rebuilding it into a desirable venue with several balconies and wings, and all new seating and stage area.

During the 2 year reconstruction, Colorado Ballet will move into a much smaller theatre - the Paramount on the 16th Street mall. This will necessitate redesigning their Nutcracker sets and dealing with an almost total lack of wing space. Colorado Ballet will also shrink its season from 5 ballets to 4 during this time.
