  4. From Wikipedia ... The Princess Grace Statue Award Past winners of the Awards who distinguish themselves in their artistic disciplines since receiving their initial Princess Grace Awards are eligible to win the Foundation’s highest honor, the Princess Grace Statue Award. In addition to a $25,000 unrestricted cash gift, these awardees are presented with a bronze statuette of Princess Grace created by the Monegasque artist Kees Verkade. To date, 45 artists have received this award. Here is a link to a nice set of photos of Gillian at the recent Awards Gala... Gillian Murphy at Princess Grace Awards 2009
  5. I was at the Murphy/Corella Swan Lake and would second the comments by Classic Ballet. Gillian was spectacular and wonderful and the full house rewarded her amazing performance with boistrous cheering and a spontaneous standing ovation. I would also mention Stella and Maria for a sweet and lyrical pas d'trois. I happened to be sitting next to a middle-aged couple who were tourists from Italy who had come to the ballet simply for something to do. They had no special knowledge. They were not even aware that NYC supports both NY City Ballet and ABT. To put it mildly, they were flabbergasted by the quality of the production, the orchestra and Gillian's dancing. I have to say I was feeling a little bit proud to see the eyes of "Old Europe" opened just a little bit to the fact that America is not a total cultural wasteland after all.
  6. That definitely was NOT there before, and neither was Tchai Pas at the 11/1 matinee, also with casting TBA. Flames of Paris is repeated at the 11/2 matinee and I think they added a few more performances of the Tudor Romeo & Juliet pdd. The addition of Flames of Paris is intriguing - dare we hope for a Ratmansky inspired guest ballerina?. Gillian Murphy and Ethan Stiefel did this pas as part of the party scene at the Washington National Opera production of Der Flederrmaus about 3 or 4 years ago. I saw it in person and later on PBS at NewYear's Eve. It was terrirific in spite of the small stage and strange setting.
  7. That's not true. Gottlieb is a fan of Murphy (not many critics are), and his assessment many of the NYCB ballerinas has always been very enthusiastic (Ashley Bouder, Sara Mearns, etc.) even as he deplores some of the decisions Peter Martins has made. I would tend to dispute your throwaway remark that not many critics are fans of Murphy. It seems to me that over the years professional reviews by a wide variety of critics covering a wide variety of roles have been overwhelmingly positive. For example, even the recent largely negative NYT review of the ABT season discussed in an adjoining thread singles her out for praise.
