Just back to hotel from the show:
Sublime Veronika Part danced an extraordinarily touching MOZARTIANA and was cheered to the rafters! Bravissima! Lots of bouquets, including huge one from AD Kevin M. And I believe that I saw Ratmansky following KMc. Entire company stood at back of stage and cheered.
So happy to hear this! Sigh. Thank you for the report, Natalia.

Wow, twins!! Congratulations Evgenia and Andrei!

No Part, though
I am also surprised at no Gomes. He was cast last year.

for Mr. Cirio and Mr. Hoven!

Did anyone see the Wednesday afternoon performance with Veronika Part/Cory Stearns?

Guessing Osipova is staying put at The Royal?
I believe she was to guest during the Bolshoi's tour.

Bessmertnova in the Bolshoi production was my introduction to the ballet, and she remains my favorite Raymonda. I voted for the La Scala recon, the best overall production IMO.

Lots of photos here
Gorgeous.
And thank you, Natalia, for the incredible reviews! I would love to see this. (Maybe we'll a get a DVD someday? )

Part is listed for only one Lilac in Detroit, which suggests to me that she may still be injured and her participation in the tour at all is questionable. They probably need to reserve Stella for her Lilac duties.
Deleted.

The broadcast of the RDB's new "Swan Lake" with J'aime Crandall, Alban Lendorf, and Jуn Axel Fransson is on YouTube. Quite an interesting production!

Does Maria Kotchekova know something we don't? On her twitter it says "Principal Dancer with San Francisco Ballet and ABT": https://twitter.com/balletrusse
Maria's twitter page now says she is a guest with ABT.

According to ABT's website, Part will be partnered by guest artist Denys Nedak in La Bayadere.

For those who have not picked up the lobby casting sheets at the MET, the most recent casting sheet lists the casting for the Rothbart role in SL:
Jared Matthews: 6/23, 6/25 matinee
Hammoudi - 6/24, 6/25 evening
Whiteside: 6/26, 6/28 evening
Radetsky 6/27
Stearns 6/28 matinee
I guess Gomes has given up the role. Sad, since he was so terrific in the role.
Thanks for the update, abatt. I think Whiteside will be fantastic in this. Gomes is a real loss -- but I'm sure we can all agree he deserves a break! Glad we don't have to see Vasiliev wear the costume again -- which didn't suit him at all. Has Stearns danced this role in the past? I'm curious to see if he is mended enough to dance all of his currently scheduled performances, beginning next week.
Agree about Gomes! Even without von Rothbart, I think he has the biggest amount of performances among the men (as has been the case for a number of years).
And, yes, Stearns has done the role before.

Curious to know how Murphy and Nedak were last night. Did anyone see them?

The Dutch National Ballet has made a little video of Lezhnina highlights.
What a wonderful video. I know Lezhnina best from her recordings with the Kirov -- Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Nutcracker. She has been one of my favorite dancers since I was a little girl.

Very beautiful opening cerems for the Sochi Winter Olympics. Lots of dance and ballet, including a 'Natasha's Ball (War & Peace) Ballet' set in 18th-C St. Petersburg, starring Svetlana Zakharova, Danil' Korsuntsev, and BOTH famous Vasilievs - Vladimir and Ivan. Also, Vishneva featured in a modern take on Swan Lake, wearing her 'Beauty in Motion' costume with the long beads and a hoop. (I did not quite 'get' it but the music was Swan Lake.)
Did anybody catch the name of the choreographer(s) for the various ballet portions?
Thank you very much for identifying all the dancers, Natalia! I recognized Diana, thought it was Danil and Ivan. Something about Svetlana's hair made me unsure if it was her, and I didn't know Vladimir.
Very pleased with how much ballet, opera, and classical music was part of the opening ceremony. A fitting and beautiful moment having The Firebird playing during the lighting of the Olympic Flame.

Looks like there will again be a fair amount of dance-related programs for the 2013-2014 season.
Romeo and Juliet
Swan Lake
Nutcracker
Sleeping Beauty
Giselle
Riverdance
Firebird
Don Quixote
Coppelia
Scheherazade
The Seasons (Glazunov)
Spartacus
Should be an interenesting Olympic season!

Kim Kimin made his debut as Siegfried on the 19th, and will perform Solar in June. He is receiving a lot of opportunities!

Such sad news!! I was most familiar with her wonderful interviews in the documentary Dancing for Mr. B, as well as her autobiography. A great loss for the ballet world.
-
Thanks, Cygnet! That is exciting news.
