  1. http://konkretno.ru/o_visokom/69930-dve-baleriny-mixajlovskogo-teatra-pereshli-v-marinku.html as per this article (sorry in Russian only) and comments on the russian forum, Shapran and Bondareva move to Mariinsky
  2. a video of Viktor Lebedev (2 years prior to his graduation from Vaganova), who's cast to perform in NYC in November. (imho, i like Alexei Popov as well, seen him dance in person, but it's getting off topic). Looking forward to watching Mikhailovsky in NYC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q82wLYl_H04 Added later - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPANPBHMmrk - Giselle Kristina Shapran Viktor Lebedev Only 35 Entre Chat Six"
  3. a bit off topic - as i had to look it up myself ;- ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embarrassment_of_riches "An embarrassment of riches is an idiom that means an overabundance of something, or too much of a good thing"
  4. IMHO, Fateev is trying to make his own world star out of Skorik. Alas at a cost of the audience and Mariinsky's (old times) reputation. I've seen enough of Skorik, several times in SL, where i saw a great flexible body with great lines, but i wish better technique, reliability, the "personality", "wise thinking head" and "good spiritual heart and soul" accompanied that body - imho... I have been and will try to AVOID seeing her cast in ballets (life is too short)
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv97ZzwDKn4 from the Bolshoi chanel via russian forum. Naration is in Russian, but some pictures worth a 1K words. (they show Merkuriev in DQ coda spins, but don't bring them along ;-( Though i have no complains about the cast personally
  6. I echo you abatt. i almost skipped it when they brought Ratmansky's cinderela to DC1,5 years ago.
  7. about "The fake beard and moustache were a good touch, because without them he looks 16" about Shklyarov - they were real, at the stage door one could witness it. As well as Fateev, Makarova etc. PS: and they were (including Polina) so humble and human in interaction with the fans I am glad we had a chance to see 3 Vaganova graduates on the ABT stage last week. Instead of showering them with compliments, i'd just say that i took my friends to see them (presenting them with tickets ;-)) - i wanted my friends to have a double treat. and they got it. I can't echo your comments about "corps de ballet"* in the shades or other scenes. I am just spoiled by Mariinsky's impecable corpse dancing. *thank you Aurora for pointing to my typo
  8. Koch theater multi-program discount is different from intial listing (20% off for 3+), it's only 15% now -"Choose 3 or more performances and get a 15% discount." but they offer now 10% for any 2 performances
  9. i got the tickets too (not to all performances, but to all programs ;- )) got the discount. I love this forum, i wouldn't have known SO MANY things without you. PS: i wonder what the real final casting will be in Nov. I saw Sarafonov in Giselle last spring at Mikhailovsky with his wife (Olesya). Loved their dancing. And i am looking forward to seeing Vorontsova and Shapran, hope they will bring them
  10. Ticket for 3/15 (Saturday), 2pm LES BALLETS DE MONTE CARLO - $52 LAC: Swan Lake for the 21st Century http://www.nycitycenter.org/tickets/productionNew.aspx?performanceNumber=7599 Great seat in the orchestra, 3rd row side.
  11. i think noone said CANCELLation of visas, stopping of issuing new one - let's hope it all gets resolved and we'll see Bolshoi in DC and NYC
  12. Tatiana Terehova coaches Alina Somova, and I saw her in DC in the audience. She's said to have significantly improved Alina's style.
  13. Bravo to the Mariinsky corps de ballet. I enjoyed watching it tremendously. The dancers were as if a mere refelction in a mirror, such alignment of every limb, every angle, heads tilted and as if they breathed as a one body. Bravo, A+++. As for soloists, i didn't like O.Esina, neither she has the flexibility, powerful expression of upper body (she does bend in lower back) that deprives volume and air from her movements, now can she spin. (come one- 27,5 single fouettes? for a Lead in Swan Lake with Mariinsky? - i even had to second guess myself about 32 fouetes). Me- disappointed with her (but i had the ticket for Matinee, and seeing Ernest Latipov was a bonus. T. Askerov was good, much improved from before and I could see his neck ;- )) -right track. Kolegova was better (imho) compared to Orange county engagement, she was right on music. and I was glad that A. Somova performance was much softer, without edginess and acrobatics, very right on music*. Sklyarov was (as expected) trying to out-do himself. I liked his "frazing" certain well thought jestures that conveyed the story line. To round-up, i would much prefer to see a cast different to Esina and Kolegova, however, BRAVO to the company itself and its GORGEOUS SPLENDID corps de ballet. It was nice to see forum friends in DC * orchestra was not as good as before, the solo violin had problems at times, the tempo was wrong at times, and wind instruments were wrong many times....
  14. I had a great experience buying in person, and they gave me a best possible discount. Never tried over the phone for NYC (as i live here)
  15. It was sold out from the beginning of Jan. Though today i saw that besides saying it's sold out, there's a sign that on sale for members only. (?!?) well, interesting whom they really bring... I've so far have only 1 ticket for Sat matinee. Wonder if they will offer the standing room tickets (the ticket office said it will be decided once the company gets in town, by Mariinsky's management)
  16. I need to sell ONE ticket for Mariinsky open Dress rehearsal on 2/28 12pm, face value + Kennedy center charge, i think total is about 15. The ticket is in NYC but i will be willing to mail it. If i do not reply right away, i am travelling, back on 6th. Happy Holiday season
  17. I need to sell ONE ticket for this open rehearsal, face value + Kennedy center charge, i think total is about 15. The ticket is in NYC but i will be willing to mail it. If i do not reply right away, i am travelling, back on 6th. Happy Holiday season
  18. Tereshkina will not be in DC (confirmed personally by her). Somova has an ankle injury (has been treating it, but it may not heal over due to her persistency to heavily perform now). The "surprise" may be that Fateev will add Skorik at the last moment - that's what i heard. IMHO and what i saw in last 7 days is Tereshkina is back technically and emotionally, she is delicate with her back, and does not overextend. Somova got more emotional, but a tiny extra (compared to her old self) around hips articulates her imprecision, and the ruined ankle doesn't help her dancing. Novikova delivered a baby girl, and Osmolkina is expecting. Lopatkina & Kuznetsov made me cry in the Legend of Love. Why don't they bring it oversees, it's a very impressive ballet.
  19. The official report was that she'd COMBINE her active performing and holding the Vaganova post. Have you seen her swan and the outstanding balerinas you quote? I had seen them all (Lopatkina in February, Kolegova in Oct, and others before). As such I am petitioning. And as she's not in the age group of the others her performing age is not indefinite. Of the posted cast, I will look forward to seeing Tereshkina, but not the other two. Added later after tamicute's response. The policy of this forum forbids me from publishing a lot of information here. I will just say, that i know and been told (first hand) a lot of things about Kennedy cating/engagement and Mariinsky internal politics. But as i don't have printed sources of such, i can't publish it. I will let you be and post whatever you like. I vote with my dollars (besides braving to appeal to Gergiev in person) ;- )) by fliying to see whom i want to see (Tereshkina+Shklyarov, LOPATKINA!, Tereshkina+Yermakov) PS: work interviened to see Lopatkina's Giselle ;- ((
  20. Giselle with Ulyana Lopatkina (Oct. 20th, 2013)- I have no words to. I just want to see it live Copied from a russian forum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HXVJD-qbeQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sETUVCHZhGA Copied from a russian forum (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ06ZoNQnSo) and an extra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4UkOL7gzYE&feature=c4-overview&list=UUShmiknIiuWLpiXokhCOk8w
  21. And I want the US audience to WATCH THIS MIRACCLE, "one of the greatest stars ever to shine". I've been reading the reviews about Ms. Lopatkina Swan Lake in Asia this month and her Giselle on 10/22, and she's in the greatest artistic and physical form. [i'm not within inner circle of Mr. Gergiev], but i will deliver my petition which i handed to him to the Mariinsky's theater Admin office in November. I hope critics will join us in asking for her performance in DC. I've seen her SL in February in Saint Pete. It's worth the trip
  22. http://www.mariinsky.ru/en/news1/news2/23_231oct/ Dmitry Medvedev congratulates Ulyana Lopatkina Today Mariinsky Theatre prima ballerina Ulyana Lopatkina, People’s Artist of Russia, celebrates her birthday. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev sent his congratulations to the ballerina – “You are one of the greatest stars ever to shine,” his birthday telegram read. Medvedev noted that the dancer’s virtuoso technique and stunning plastique make her every role emotionally intense and expressive, while her interpretations of the roles of Odette-Odile, Giselle, Nikia and the Lilac Fairy among countless others have enchanted audiences at the world’s greatest theatres and brought glory to Russian dance.
  23. Dear forum readers, please post (or email me - those who know my e-mail or via PM here) your prefered casting, I will be happy to try to pass it to Mr. Gergiev on Tuesday after his concert in Carnegie Hall.
