  1. ....and Taylor replaces Borrée in Symphonic Dances, a debut for her on 5/21 and again on 5/22.
  2. Thanks for the casting, everyone. I know it's a lot of typing but I appreciate it..............and would love to see next week's as well, especially the Somogyi/Martins night and the Ringer(sub?)/ Neal cast.
  3. Sneds, Could you give us some of the casting for Swan Lake -- usually the pd3, pd4, and divertissements in Act II are listed, but this year they aren't. I especially like to see who's new, who's back, etc. in these parts just as much as I want to know the leading dancers! By the way, your review makes me want to run out and get my ticket right away!
  4. I enjoy the ballet if I don't know any of the dancers, but it's even better if I do know them. When I see a company for the first time, I always hope to see more of them so that I can recognize dancers the next time. I recently moved to a new city and part of the challenge of seeing a different ballet company has been learning who the dancers are!
  5. The New York City Ballet website, www.nycballet.com, will have her bio and headshot in the Dancers section. Under Repertory there's a picture of every ballet -- she'll probably be in some of those. From time to time she'll be pictured in the Front Row Center section which has photos from the previous week's performances. There's much more.........take a look!
  6. Question for E Johnson: Who danced Tombeau de Couperin? When I looked at the casting it still said TBA.
  7. Sorry to say I can't see the performance, but they are still doing Nutcracker so I can tell you she'll be dancing the Sugar Plum.
  8. FYI re:Ramassar I read in a magazine (Pointe?)last season that he was originally cast in The Infernal Machine, but was unable to do it for the Gala, so Soto took on the part.
  9. I usually see 2 or 3 (maybe more) professional Nutcrackers. I like to go to the productions of our local regional companies too, to see how the kids are coming along. So my total could be 5 or 6. I like to compare the different versions and I do like to take a friend along.
  10. to rkoretsky, I've heard that one of the Gala pieces has a big corps, so you may be seeing a lot more dancers than the principal casting indicates.
  11. I found someone's copy of Dance View Magazine and wanted to know more. I either wrote a letter or searched the internet, but somehow I reached Alexandra, got a subscription, found the website, etc. It was a great discovery!

  13. Check the NYCB website for the new corps members. They are listed in the Dancers bios section but the bios aren't there yet. I'm not sure about new apprentices though.
  14. Does one need to get tickets ahead of time for these performances? Do they sell out or are there always available tickets on the grass? Just wondering -- we are planning a trip during the next 3 weeks.
  15. .......and if you are thinking of the School of American Ballet, that is the school for the New York City Ballet.
  16. Sorry, I did not see the performance. I did read about it in the NY Times and I think they mentioned what piece he danced, but I can't remember now.
  17. He's from Houston, Texas and is about l7 years old. He trained in Houston, spending summers away at various schools (SAB, ABT). This past year he joined the Studio Company at ABT and performed in their last show. I heard he had this study opportunity in England and that's where he went for this summer.
  18. Pepin took a leave of some kind, exploring other things. Maybe she'll return.....
  19. Several apprentices got corps contracts last month: Alina Dronova, Sophie Flack, Dara Johnson, Teresa Reichlen, Sean Suozzi. Amar Ramassar got his in July. Also, some SAB students were apprenticed for Nutcracker, so we will see more new faces when the season opens.
  20. "The Best of the New Season"....6 pages of previews of Classical & Dance, full page photo of Janie Taylor, short write-ups of upcoming events through November.
  21. Well, this topic is getting old but I'm just back and want to at least tell my favorite castings for the week. This is one of my favorite ballets by the way and I did also see PNB on TV but didn't watch through the end b/c it was so NOT like watching it in the theatre. So here are my favorites: Titania: Kistler, but Korbes is beautiful! Oberon: Boal, always Puck: Evans, nobody like him Divert: Whelan, Soto Hippolyta: Somogyi Butterfly: Taylor, whose fast feet were perfect for Quinn's conducting! the lovers: Ansanelli, Rutherford, Marcovici, Angle (different casts)
  22. I understand that there's a new P.M. ballet set for Saratoga. Could this be what you heard about?
  23. Time Out NY, May 10 - 17 has an interview of Janie Taylor, with pictures (la Valse, Scotch Symphony). Questions include how she was promoted, what she'd like to dance next, her favorite parts, etc.
  24. I'm pretty sure it's the May issue. I just read it but can't put my hands on it.
  25. The April Vogue (German) highlights New York. The feature entitled "On the Top" about 10 Women from New York contains a full page picture of Janie Taylor with a short write-up, in German of course.
