  1. In the piano score of the original 5 acts' version of Don Quixote this pas de deux is entitled "Pas de quatre". Some variations and the coda are different.
  2. In the Kirov Ballet's production of Giselle from 1982 with Galina Mezentseva and Konstantin Zaklinsky there is one strange variation whose composer is unknown to me. It is the female variation from the Peasant pas de deux from Act I. The typical variation is composed by Burgmueller (as well as the entire Peasant pas de deux). But in the Kirov's video there is another variation in polka tempo. The music seems to be composed by Drigo, or maybe Pugni, or maybe Minkus, or maybe by Burgmueller himself. Could anyone help me to identify the composer?
  3. Do you mean Kitri's variation from the famous Pas de deux in the last act? In the Kirov Ballet's Don Quixote the music for Tatyana Terekhova's variation is in 6/8 and there isn't any fan. In the VHS called "Kirov Ballet in London" Terekhova performs the other variation composed by Drigo (in 2/4) and known as the "fan variation". Both Cynthia Harvey (in the Met's production of Don Quixote) and Nina Ananiashvili (in the State Perm Ballet's production) perform the fan variation by Drigo, but the tempo of the middle part is faster in the Met's version.
  4. If we are speaking of Kitri's variation from the Grand Pas de deux (the last act), the music of the two DVD's is different. The Boris Spassov's CD studio recording of Don Quixote includes both variations: Track 21: the original variation composed by Minkus Track 20: the "Fan" variation composed by Drigo The first Kitri variation from act I (by Minkus) and the Dulcinea variation from the Dream Scene (by Drigo) are the same in both DVD's
  5. Le Corsaire is one of my favorite ballets. I am trying to identify all the composers responsible for the music in the ABT's and Kirov's productions, so I need some help. Let's begin with the ABT's version. In act I there are 4 fragments: the Introduction, the opening dance from Act I, the entry of the slave girls and the entry of Conrad - who are the composers of these fragments? Then we have the two dances of Medora - unknown composer. After that - the re-orchestrated Corsairs' Bacchanal (Adam) and the added coda (maybe by Pugni???) In Act II the Pirates' Dance in mazurca tempo is by Pugni or someone else? And then there is a variation for Conrad (in the Kirov version it is part of the pas de deux a trois and is performed after the Medora's variation) - the composer is Drigo, Pugni or maybe Minkus ??? And finally the composers ot the two variations for Gulnara and Medora from Le Jardin Anime: I think the first is by Pugni, and the second is by Minkus or Drigo. (The variation of Medora in the Kirov production is composed by Prince Trubetskoi). Finally, I have trouble with 5 fragments from the Kirov version: the corsairs' melody from the final of Act 1, scene 1 (repeated in the corsairs cave), the palestinian and the alregian dances from the Slave Market scene, and the dance of the corsairs and the entry of Conrad from the Corsairs' Cave act. I will be very grateful if anyone could tell me who are the composers of all these fragments and dances
  6. The Kitri's variation, danced by Terekhova in the Kirov Ballet version of Don Quixote, is the original variation, composed by Minkus. The "fan" variation with the solo harp, danced by Ananiashvili in the State Perm Ballet version of Don Quixote, is composed by Riccardo Drigo in 1903 for Kschessinska, and is added into her performances of Alexander Gorsky's revival of Don Quixote.
