  1. I am going tomorrow to see MFB’s Cinderella. I have to say that the lack of web presence of Radchenko’s ballet companies had been confusing if not frustrating altogether. Add to that many contradictory and mixed reviews of his productions. Well I am a ballet fan with no ability to tell the difference between a good and a so-so production, unless I will see both productions simultaneously. As I mentioned I’ll be watching Cinderella (MFB) tomorrow, and last year I went to see “The Swan Lake” (Russian National Ballet). I hope I am not jumping over my head here, but the SW was so-so. There were many slips and other mistakes, which I am not sure how to describe here. But I did enjoy it - you would too considering it was the only production other then the Nutcracker within 100 miles. LOL Well I just wanted to share this little thing I found about Radchenko’s ballet, hope you will find it useful. *********** The Russian National Ballet was founded in Moscow in the late 1980s. The company was founded by and incorporated graduates from the great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perm. In 1994, the legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Sergei Radchenko was selected by Presidential decree to assume the first permanent artistic directorship of the company. Mr. Radchenko is the founder and also artistic director of the Moscow Festival Ballet. Radchenko has focused the two companies in slightly different directions, the Moscow Festival company undertaking vast international touring and commissioning modern works and new productions of full-length ballets. The Russian National Ballet has focused on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works of Petipa: Don Quixote, La Bayadere, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Raymonda, Paquita, Coppelia and La Sylphide, as well as productions of, among others, The Nutcracker, Sylvia, and La Fille Mal Gardee. Sergei Radchenko Artistic Director Born in 1944, Sergei Radchenko graduated from the Moscow School of Dance in 1964 and then joined the Bolshoi Ballet, where he worked for 25 years. He danced the entire repertoire at the Bolshoi, but enjoyed a special reputation for Spanish dance, particularly the role of the bullfighter in the Bizet-Shchedrin Carmen Suite. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Moscow Festival Ballet and has achieved a remarkable feat in the establishment and development of this young but great Russian ballet company. He also presents a large number of master-classes, inviting leading teachers from the Bolshoi and Maryinsky theatres to ensure the continuation of the rich traditions of the Russian classical school.
  2. Oh Gosh! I can't believe I missed this post! I hope Marianna still visits this forum. I am also from Almaty and reading about my beloved Theater of Opera and Ballet brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy Marianna took the initiative to write about Almaty ballet. Thank you so very much! I sometimes brows the site to see what performances are scheduled and get jealous - there is no strong ballet company where I live now. BIG SAIGH. I hope one day I will be able to visit my home town and see a ballet at the theater once again. P.S. If you visited the theater recently: did they keep the beautiful frescos on the sealing?
  3. Sorry, if I am posting it in the wrong section. Here is a crazy question: We'll have a couple of ballet companies visiting our city in the upcoming season. Our performing arts web site lists the companies and the dates, but there is no name of ballets. Those companies' web sites don't have that info either. Any idea how to find out?
  4. I am back (after 7 years) to this forum. I didn't realize how much I missed it. I remember you Giannina ! Was really surprised to remember names. I am an artist and live in Omaha, NE and we have alot more ballet now days, which makes me very happy! I know almost nothing about ballet, but love it very much! Glad to be back.
  5. I was - Moscow Festival Ballet, that's the name.
  6. Thank you! You are great! Although I am not a ballet professional, I've seen enough of ballet to recognise a poor effort. I still love it though. I like to be plesently surprised at a performance, but to anticipate something special is so much fun, like: "I can't wait till November because Miamy is coming to town!"
  7. It is usually only a couple of times a year that ballet companies come our way and the tickets are expensive. I am planning to see this production no matter what. However knowing next to nothing about ballet companies' reputations I am often lost. I just would love to know if it worth $70.00. How many Radchenko companies are out there? We had his Russian State Ballet Theater this year and next year his Moscow Festival Ballet is coming? (was a bit disapointed by the Swan Lake by - yet another Radchenko - company this year). I will apreciate an opinion on Miami and Moscow. Any one?
