  1. There really is a ABBA ballet, "Abbalett", done by the Cullberg Ballet with Galina Palova, Niklas Ek, Madeleine Onne and others. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0214405/ The music of ABBA really sucks and making a ballet with their music was a bad idea
  2. Great idea, It must be possible to create such a list. Much help to create it could be found on Amazon and on the Dance On Camera Database: http://www.dancefilmsassn.org/search/
  3. "You are Marius Petipa! The epitome of classicism, you are the most famous ballet choreographer, and most of these other choreographers wouldn't have gotten where they are without you, even if today's dancers think your codas are an excuse for gymnastics." I hoped to be Fokine, but Petipa is ok. "I accidentally say obscene things in Russian "
  4. The Bourneville Gala perfomance 21 August 2005: http://www.kgl-teater.dk/dkt2002uk/ballet/...ournonville.htm I read somewhere that Nina has decided to cancel all her performances for the rest of 2005. Is there a possibillity that she will perform at the gala? If you come to Denmark to see the gala performance, you can also take the opportunity to see this perfomance: http://www.havfruen.nu/english/om_havfruen.asp
  5. There is also a DVD release in august (Europe) of "The sleeping beauty" with Konstantin Zaklinsky and Altynai Asylmuratova. I don't know if it's a Kultur release, but they have the same performance on vhs.
  6. It would be interesting to see how the entrance of the shades would look like if Matthew Bourne would renew it. Would male dancers make it more amusing to watch?
  7. I did, and I am very happy to say that I was not disappointed. The picture quality was ok, and also on a 40" screen it was acceptable. I would recommend this DVD, and I belive it was a great perfomance of "Spartacus", and who needs bonus features and 5.1 audio, when the dancing is excellent.
  8. I have just watched the DVD "The Pharaoh's daughter" and I wonder what kind of floor they have at the Bolshoi, it's seems to amplify the noise from every little step from the pointe shoes. Perhaps it's just a mistake by the soundguy that misplaced the microphones, but It's really disturbing and at several times it could be heard over the music, I really would prefer to have no stagesound at all.
  9. Birgit Cullberg did her last choreography to a ballet and even danced in it at the age of 76, and continued to guest the Cullberg Ballet into her ninth decade. Slå det!
  10. I remember that the Danish TV did broadcast many of Flemming Flindt ballets, I was so happy that I had the opportunity to watch them in Sweden. "Salome" was the one that got most publicity because Vivi Flindt danced naked for a minute or two. http://www.maxopus.com/works/salome.htm I also was lucky to see the closing night gala of the Bournonville Festival. I wish that Danish TV could open the archives and release all the good stuff they have.
  11. Well my other favorites are VERY untraditional, so thats why I like the Peter Wright production, it's "back to the original" and "authentic" as the artistic director says in an interview, and it's also very swedish, if Bergman had done svan lake it maybe have been something like this. Why didn't Bergman do a ballet? he did an opera. This evening on the Mezzo channel it's a Bolshoi production of swan lake and also Don Quichotte with Baryshnikov.
  12. Well I voted "Other" My favorites is three very different productions of Swan lake. 1. The new classic of Matthew Bourne. 2. Peter Wright's dark and gothic produktion with the Royal Swedish Ballet. 3. Barbie of Swan lake, with Choreography by Peter Martins and with the London Symphony Orchestra. A colorful animated fairytale, not to be missed.
  13. There is a vhs of this version of spartacus that now arthouse release on dvd, http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000009DLK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
  14. I was just about to buy the -79 version of spartacus, could this arthouse release be a better alternative? Being a "midprice" dvd makes me suspicious. And there is also a spartacus dvd from the Australian ballet. Please help me make the best choice.
