Well it´s a ballet theatre Most of the women are en pointe, but don´t expect to much of classical dancing.

Oh, how I love this DVD! I am going to watch this every christmas instead of Nutcracker. It contains a lot of great dancing and many wonderful christmas carols, especially was Tiny Tim´s singing very moving and made me cry and cry There was also a great Pas de Deux with Scrooge and his his fiancée. Lez Brotherston (Matthew Bourne´s Swan Lake) have done the spectacular costumes and stage design, and Carl Davis the music. One of my best DVD buys last year.

That Sleeping beauty version is now released on DVD My favorite ballet videos are two old russian balletmovies "The little humpbacked horse" from 1962, and "Cinderella" from 1961. They don't make them like this anymore, but maybe Balanchine's "The Nutcracker" also will become a classic 30 years from now.

It sure is, I have been waiting for a DVD of Ashston's Sylvia for a long time, are you sure that it will be released on DVD? There is to my knowledge only Neumeier's version of Sylvia available. I hope you recorded the broadcast!

There are at least two Swan Lake DVD's with Kirov http://ginza.se/Product/Product.aspx?ItemId=126328 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005NGA...&v=glance&n=130 I really love the first one from 1968 with Yelena Yevteyeva as Odette/Odile, it's a studio production, but be aware that the sound quality is not the best.

Kiera rules! I must see that movie. Well I just came back from a movie that also have a classic version from the fourties, this new movie of Oliver Twist is made by Roman Polansky. David Lean´s fantastic movie was in black and white, but I think there was no reason to make another adaption of the Charles Dickens novel, and Alec Guinness had already done a perfect Fagin. Roman Polansky did a good work, and Ben Kingsley is not bad, he even put some humanity in Fagin, but I prefer the old black and white movie.

I don´t know if I am so delighted with those "hotpants" (is that what they are called?) they look like something you wear when you do gymnastics.

I am aware of that, but there is no other version available. I usually don´t like modern versions of classic ballets by people like Mats Ek, Maguy Marin, Neumeier and others, but I did like some parts of "La Chauve-Souris " by Roland Petit, mostly because of a very funny Luigi Bonino and the wonderful Alessandra Ferri and a great Pas de deux in the end. With the great Aurelie Dupont and Manuel Legris and Delibes music, I hope it is not to bad. Thanks for the photos!

A real classic is at last released on DVD . The tales of Hoffmann With Frederick Ashton and Moira Shearer. Also soon to be released is "Sylvia" with Aurelie Dupont and Manuel Legris in Neumeier´s production for POB.

Le Corsaire with Asylmuratova is a must, and I would also recommend Ivan the terrible with Gedeminas Taranda . Search for kirov and bolshoi on amazon.co.uk and you will find many PAL videos.

"A dancer will always be a dancer - even while pregnant" Pregnant Principals, a pas de deux for four hearts Two of The Swedish Royal Ballet's Principal dancers Marie Lindqvist and Anna Valev danced in the ballet "252 days" at the end of their pregnancy. But I don't think I want to see a pregnant Odette in Swan Lake.

One cannot really leave the Swedish academy, you are elected for a lifelong membership and you will be replaced first after your death. I believe that there are four or five members that have "left" the academy for various political reasons and they are no longer active in the academy.

I think the most suitable Coppelia for a little girl is the one by Paris Opera Ballet School, it has young dancers and does not have the boring (to a child) third act. And I think that Pierre Lacotte does a very good, not so diabolical, Dr. Coppelius. It also have a bonus, there is a documentary about the school, which is interesting.

I don't know if I believe that, who would bring a dead cat to the theatre? But in the movie "Amacord" by Fellini, somebody did that and throw the dead cat on the stage.
