  6. I believe that if you are looking for classical ballet you would be disappointed. There are not much dancing in "A folk tale", what I recall is some folk dance in act one, solo by Hilda (Silja Schanorff) in act two and a Pas de sept, with Johan Kobborg, in act three. But it is a very entertaining ballet and I really like all the mime, not to mention Sorella Englund and Michael Bastian as the trolls. Queen Margrethe II not only designed the costumes, she also did the wonderful sets. More about A folk tale HERE A short video HERE
  7. I am looking forward to see some great choreography by Wade Robson and Mandy Moore, and I wonder if Benji Schwimmer got another sister or cousin that show up for audition? Anyway this show is so much better than "Dancing with the stars".
  8. Here are some danish documentaries on video with Erik Bruhn, Flemming Flindt, Nicolaj Hubbe, Henning Kronstams Giselle, August Bournonville. I will certainly try to get hold on some of these. DFI-KATALOG

  11. There is one story about YELENA ANDREIANOVA (1819 - 1857). "Yelena Andreianova was the lover and mistress of Alexander Guedenov, the director of the Imperial Theatres. Yelena graduated from the Imperial Theatre School in1837 and became the ballerina of the Maryinsky Ballet. Her political power in the company was uncontested because of her relationship with the director. Unfortunately with the visiting ballerinas from France caused her to lose many of her roles. She had been the first Russian ballerina to perform Giselle in Russia. Yelena had to watch from the wings while Marie Taglioni and Fanny Elssler took St. Petersburg by storm. To placate his lover and to avoid a major explosion, Guedenov sent Yelena to be ballerina of Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. On her opening night the audiences resented Yelena, from invading St. Petersburg's ballerina, and instead of throwing flower on the stage they threw a dead cat. Shocked and appalled the ballerina fainted. The audience felt what they had done was over the edge and repented and gave her a standing ovation. She remained their ballerina for fifteen years. Yelena went on tour of the Western World with great success, but on her returned she found Guedenov had found a new lover. Broken hearted and unable to face her fans at the Maryinsky she left Russia and settled in Paris where she died four years later. Loyalty in the theater is seldom lasting". Quotes from Andros on Ballet.

  16. The tap dancing was a part of a very entertaining and funny dance battle between the three male dancers. I thought that dance battle was a hip hop thing?, but it was fantastic to see these great dancers try to outdo each other. Kobborg started off with a amazing solo number, David Makhateli and Steven Mc Rae was yawning and tried to look very unimpressed. Mc Rae answered with a fantastic tap number and he really got the audience with him , to Kobborgs annoyance . David Makhateli refused to participate in the battle but he was forced to dance by Kobborg and Mc Rae, and acting very unwilling, he finally did a couple of grand jetes. Well the three combattants ended up as princes dancing the rose adagio with Alina Cojocaru. Kobborg Cojocaru McRae Cojocaru Kobborg Cojocaru

  20. It was a fantastic performance! It was 30 years since I saw The Lesson so I didn´t know what to expect and I had never seen Kobborg before, but he was absolutely fabulous and it seemed that the Queen, who attended the gala, also was exited with the performance. If you missed it you have another chance to see it next week. I am gonna watch my recording of it again tonight.
  21. If you like "The Lesson" or if you are a fan of Johan Kobborg you can watch Danish Television DR1 this evening when they send a live transmission from the opera house. Flemming Flind has himself instructed Kobborg and Gudrun Bojesen in this special performance of "The Lesson"
  22. The Fairy Doll from 1927. And one that I haven't seen before, Anna Pavlova in The Dying Swan from 1907
  23. I loved her too and hope that she like another Georgian junior skating champion Nina Ananiashvili take the decision to give up skating for ballet.
