Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post under, but it looked to be the most appropriate. I recently got a second job teaching ballet at a local studio. I am teaching an hour long ballet/pre-pointe class, followed by an hour and a half ballet technique/pointe class. I had grown up with a full hour and a half long technique class then followed by a half hour, or hour of pointe, depending on my age. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get both technique and pre-pointe into an hour long class? They take ballet one other day of the week, which is purely technique, but I feel that the girls should have a technique class before putting their pointe shoes on, especially young dancers new to pointe. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to break up the class?

I'm writing a paper for one of my classes on a ballerina, and I chose to write about Sarah Lamb because she rose quite quickly through the ranks, and thought it would be interesting to write about. Does anyone have any information about her? For example, what roles has she performed? I have some information, like her training, that she's joining the Royal Ballet in August, but not too much else. Thanks so much!

I am a dance major, and I have been asked to write about what the value dance is to society. I am wondering what some of your thoughts are out there, and I also think that this is an interesting topic anyways, especially with everything that is going on in our world.

Thank you very much for all of your wonderful responses! I really like the idea of the dancing manuals, and aspects of court dancing, and even primative dancing seen in ballets of today. I will run these ideas by my professor and I will let you know how my paper turns out!

Seeing ABT perform for the first time, performing Giselle. I loved it. NYCB this past summer in Saratoga Springs.....Serenade was amazing, and I'm glad I got to see it three times. The new diamond pieces, especially Haiku, choreographed by Albert Evans....incredible piece. Vienna Waltzes...gorgeous. I love seeing NYCB perform. Meeting Maria Kowroski was a treat, too. Moscow Festival Ballet performing Swan Lake last spring. Lots of personal accomplishments this past year for me as well regarding dance. What a great year, and I look forward to an even better 2003!!!

I have to write a paper on any aspect of dance history prior to the 18th century. It has to be 8 pages long. I would like to write about anything pertaining to the beginnings of the Russian ballet, but I am not sure I will be able to find a lot of information on the subject. I would like to write about something that interests me, not so much the court ballets and primitive dancing. Does anyone have any suggestions, or what else I could write about regarding the Russian ballet? Thank you very much in advance.

I saw Moscow Festival Ballet perform Giselle a few weeks ago. I'm sorry if this doesn't sound like a professional review, but it is just my opinion of the show. I really enjoyed it, and the scenery was amazing. The costumes were very pretty, and the corps de ballet did an excellent job. I haven't heard much about this company, but I would recommend that anyone see them perform if they happen to come to an area near you!

My old teacher is now the artistic director of this company, and I saw them perform in Providence, RI on March 11. They performed Les Sylphides, Paquita, along with some works by Misha (director) called Loose Ends and Extremes. I loved the show. I had seen Loose Ends when it first premiered several years ago, and it was interesting to see it again performed by different dancers. Eunice Kim and Sascha Radetsky performed in Extremes, which was an amazing piece. Misha has brilliant choreography, and he did a good job with this. And it was interesting to see one of the girls who was in the junior company, because she had auditioned with me for the Washington Ballet, and stood in front of me! I absolutely love Paquita, and if anyone lives in that area, I would suggest seeing a performance by this company. Eunice, their principal, is amazing, with a lot of talent. She used to be a principle at my school's company, and was also my teacher. It was great to see them perform again!
