  1. Yes, I will take care of it there as I am sure quite a few members will be deeply saddened by the news but will appreciate knowing. Mr. Long contributed to many in their pursuit of a professional career.
  2. Thank you Nanarina. I will try what you have suggested before I try to buy a new DVD system..
  3. The ABT dancers formed their own union back in the 1980s I believe. This is a very sad story. May all of their money be recovered.
  4. What a resource! When confronted by this very problem a few weeks back it did not enter my mind to ask here at BT. What about a small carry-on suitcase? Could one fly in, check a bag and go to the ballet? Just wondering for the next time round!
  5. As I age in this profession I have noticed that when younger I traveled just to see a company, mainly full lengths. As time has passed, I mainly travel to see programs being performed by particular dancers (mainly former students) or the Kirov when they come to the US, if it fits into my schedule and pocketbook, any ballet and cast I can see.
  6. Thank you bart for the link. Lovely to see the space and how it has been altered! Brings memories.
  7. Although there are confirmed reports from the Russian ballet community of Nella's passing, there is something inside of me wishing it were not so. Such a zest for life. An amazing talent. Too many memories of a great lady and a wonderful time in life. This news is so very sad. Thank you for the links and photo.
  8. West Palm, Direct TV WXEL Channel 42, NYCB in R&J 8:00PM. We have our graduation performances that weekend but I will record it. Thank you Hans for the heads up.
  9. Yes agreed, very basic information. I held back on purpose! Here is a direct link to BT4D. http://www.dancers.invisionzone.com/
  10. I have not looked at the youtube selections but I do know the difference between "Russian" fouettes and what may be common in the USA. Russian fouettes, when done correctly open to the side in demi plie then rise, closing the working leg to the back of the working knee and then to the front. The more common form used in the US is to open the working leg to the front in demi plie, demi rond de jambe to side in demi plie and then releve passing the working foot to the back of the knee to the front. There is also another accepted way of doing fouette, but it might be best to take a look around the sister website Ballet Talk for Dancers for the more techical questions. Upper right corner of this page will lead to BT4D!
  11. Thank you, that was lovely. The quality of the production is also very impressive.
  12. I did think of going bart, but I was afraid that I would walk away negative and disappointed. Rasta was/is a very talented young man. Your observations sound as if my fears would have been right on target.
  13. Thank you very much for posting this. A beautiful tribute to a wonderful artist and very kind person.
  14. There was a small and very beautiful obituary in the Sunday NY Times written by I am assuming Eva's husband Michael. If any of you still have the paper it is in the first section of the paper on page 20. It is hard to believe that the NY Times has not written a wonderful article about her. This is an unhappy state of affairs.
  15. A few dancers were moved up in January. Mr. Velazquez did perform with ABT II in Boca Raton, FL in February. There is a thread somewhere on BT discussing the move upward from some from ABT II.
  16. Very sad news indeed. Eva inspired many through her great artistry, kindness and gentle nature. Rest in peace Eva. May her husband find strength in knowing that Eva was loved worldwide and inspired many. Very, very sad indeed.
  17. It is great to see the cultural activities still occuring in Dade County. All three will be wonderful. Since MCB does have other performances that weekend, you could attend one of those. Cleveland Orchestra is not here very often and New World Symphony performs in Miami quite often. You may not see the program they are doing on 4/3 but you could hear them again at another time. They are all good shows. Put them in a bucket and pick one out!
  18. Portions of the Vishneva/Gomes Giselle is already on youtube as well as their Manon. Funny, I thought I had already posted this but cannot find it. Enjoy! Thank you all for giving us a glimmer.
  19. Thank you Natalia! Vishneva, Gomes, Kuznetsov...a casting of my dreams and I missed it. What an evening it must have been. Who the heck is poor bravo man! Please do not misunderstand my question, I have nothing but admiration for the casting and choice of ballet but, was the house filled with tourists or would you say the educated Petersburg audience liked the perfomance? I wish I could read the Russian websites, but my language skills have deteriorated horribly.
  20. Yes, thank you Marga. I too look forward to reading about the contemporary round. Your reviews do make one feel as if they are in the theatre.
