  1. My daughter, a professional dancer, went to see them in Rochester, Ny. She said a few soloists were good, the corps were pretty bad. They got a standing ovation, which she said they did not deserve. Luckily, she got a free ticket.
  2. My daughters took classes from her at Ballet Arts. She was a lovely person.
  3. Actually, Melissa was pretty good. You can see she has had ballet training. Plus she is a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader.
  4. I didn't know him but when I moved to Dallas years ago, I started teaching at Dallas Ballet's school under Vivi. She was a lovely person. Condolences to her and her family.
  5. My dd said the style was different than she was used to and her thighs were sore with all the "skating" due to being in plie so much!
  6. My dd danced in it at Louisville Ballet a few years ago. Helen Starr staged it.
  7. I'm sure they did it but I would have to look up my old programs....some day when I have time.
  8. I liked it a lot. I seem to remember the audience liked it too since they performed it more than one season.
  9. Dallas Ballet used to perform The Lesson. It was back when the F. Flindt was the director and Vivi was head of the school.
  10. I would like to see Stuttgart ballet again in Romeo and Juliet with Marcia Haydee and Richard Cragun. I supered in that when I was 18 or so at the Met and Philadelphia and they were magic!
  11. I remember Joyce when she was dancing with Stuttgart. I was a super both in NYC and Philadelphia. I was small and blonde like her, so I identified with her! I remember wonderful balances and of course, her pirouettes!
  12. She is my favorite at NYCB. I saw her In Feb. in the lead of Raymonda Variations. Difficult and she made it look easy!
  13. When I have guest taught at Steps in NY, she often took class. She is an extremely eccentric lady....
  14. I took pas de deux classes from Youskevitch in NY in the 70's. He gave lovely combinations and I was often used to demonstrate with him- nice person also!
  15. I can't find the video either. What is it listed under?
  16. Ellen used to take my open class at Boston Ballet. She was a lovely lady- didn't know for a long time that she was Ellen Everett. I used to see her dance with ABT in the 70's and didn't realize it was her until she finally told me!
  17. I think Ivan Nagy was one of the most handsome dancers in ABT in the 70's. He was a brilliant dancer too!
  18. I took classes from Miss Carroll at Harkness in the 70's.
  19. I recognize one of my former teachers and my friend, Elisabeth Carroll Smith. In the first picture, she is in the front row, 5th from the right. In the 2nd picture, she is in the first row, 3rd from right. She is wearing a black short dress, short grey/dark hair.
  20. As I was browsing on the internet, I saw that American National Ballet in Duluth, MN closed in Oct. 06 due to lack of funds. The AD was Armando Maldonado who I knew years ago while he was in Texas. Another sad ending of a US company.
  21. I called my PBS station in Boston and they said they were not planning on showing it anytime soon. They said maybe next year-- it was only on HD here also. It's very disappointing since I really wanted to see it.
  22. I knew her when I was a student in Columbus, Ohio. For a while she was associate director of Christopher Ballet Company, a regional company I danced with through junior and senior high school. That was in the late 60's and early 70's and I lost touch with her a long time ago.
  23. I am back from my trip to Milwaukee and wanted to post about the performances of Milwaukee Ballet's Don Quixote. It had more dancing than any other versions I have seen. It was choreographed by Michael Pink, the director. The Prologue- Don Q and Sancho Panza are introduced. Next- The Adventures of the Inn Keeper's Wife, Don Q gets involved and knocked out. Act 1- The Adventure of Kitri and Basilio-lots of dancing for the corps and soloists- all on pointe. Act 2- The Adventure of the Gypsies and the Windmill- liked the choreography for the main couple of the Gypsies. After Don Q gets knocked unconsious by the windmill, then the dream scene begins. The difference in this scene than other Don Q's is they used music by Glazonouv for the pas for Dulcinea and the Don. I thought it fit beautifully. Act 3 was the Adventures of the Entertainers and the Knight of the Moon. The Lead Toreador and his Lady danced the famous pas. Lots of dancing- not just mime and standing around. The Don fights with the Knight and he makes the Don look in his huge mirror/shield and the Don realizes his dream of chivalry is over and he returns to his village. The dancers were very good as was the orchestra- and I must say my daughter who is in MB2 got to do a lot of dancing too!
  24. I'm also sorry to hear that Pa. Ballet will not be dancing this anymore. As a scholarship student at Pa.Ballet in the 70's. it was one of my first ballets that I saw them do. I loved it and never have seen any other Carmina by other choreographers that I have liked nearly as well.
