  1. Usually documentaries about active and non-active artists do not present their failings and shortcomings. This sounds like a very strange tribute. What did Bruce Sansom say and incidentally what was the step?
  2. Larissa Lezhina was also mentioned only once, despite managing to look adorably cute and radiantly beautiful at the same time. My other vote goes to the beautiful Carla Fracci.
  3. This topic has been dead for a long time but I had to post since I love Galina Mezentzeva... I own many videos of Giselle. But whenever I see Galina Mezentseva I am blown away by the poetry she exudes. Everything is understated, internal, full of dramatic meaning... Many dancers with great technical ability perform the choreography today but the viewer never really forgets that this is dancerX dancing Giselle. Mezentseva to me IS Giselle (cliche, I know... but she is totally immersed in the role and conveys the emotion with every understated motion) I also never tire Tatiana Terekhova's Myrtha. Altynai Assylmuratova is also in the video dancing Mona (one of the 2 willi-queen helpers).
  4. Thanks for clearing that; I was very puzzled by that last gesture! When he outstretches his hand it seemed to me as if he was trying to touch somerhing only he could see or alternatively that he was threatening the audience! If I ever come across the Eisenstein film I'll definetely watch it...
  5. Thank you canbelto for the detailed review! I use the UK version of Amazon where there is just one user review. Must remember to always check the US Amazon for more reviews
  6. canbelto, I was thinking of buying the POB Romeo and Juliet video. Actually more than thinking: it resides, for the moment, in my Amazon basket, waiting for check out. I know that tastes vary but I'd like to know what it was you did not like in the POB R&J... Thanks in advance, Christine
  7. I have a video of Ivan the Terrible, danced by Irek Mukhamedov, Bessmertnova and the Bolshoi. The performance is impressive but I don't know much about the historic events on which the ballet is based (except that there was a czar named Ivan and that he was indeed Terrible) I try of course to guess (his wife is murdered and he becomes completely mad) but there are many details I am missing. Are the bells decorative or is there some symbolic meaning in the bellringing? Is it supposed to have a story or is it just images from the life of Ivan the Terrible? Also I'm not sure I understand what happens in the end (at one point he is killed by the sword carrying corps, a moment later he is up and about again)? Can anyone help me fill the gaps? Christina
