  1. I adore Marguerite and Armand, I love this style of dance, the music. I love Sylvie Guillem in this part more than in the classical ballet, against I prefer Massimo Murru as Armand than Nicolas Le Riche.

Against the opinion abouth this ballet is very shared in Parisian audience, some people adore other dislike very much this kind of ballet. It's a French Tradition to dislike English ballets and English dancers, for me I don't know very good english dancers, but I know I adore the English repertory of Ashton, MacMillan !

  2. At Paris, september 29 will be a gala to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Entente Cordiale, it will be with POB etoile and ROH principals.

Program will the following, cast are under modifications as usual  !

Etudes (Czerny, Lander) with Agnès Letestu, Jean-Guillaume Bart and José Martinez

    Entr'act

    Ashton's pdd and pd3

Midsummer's night dream : Cojocaru, Kobborg

    Thais pdd : Galeazzi, Legris

    Monotones : Gillot, Bonelli, Watson

Five Brahms dance : Yanowsky (but Tamara Rojo announced on her official website she was dancing this one, is she injuried, or does exist a mistake in this programm, I don't know)

    Sleeping Beauty : Bussell, Hilaire

Cinderella, act II pdd : Dupont, Cope

    Deux pigeons : tba

Voices of Spring : Benjamin, Acosta

    Entr'act

Marguerite and Armand with Sylvie Guillem, Nicolas Le Riche and Anthony Dowell

For Deux pigeons, pdd, I don't know if they will make a mixed royal/tnop pdd or a roh pdd alone. Laetitia Pujol and Mathieu Ganio are not cast as well as Elisabeth Maurin and Clairemarie Osta but she just have their baby and Kader Belarbi !

  3. I don't see the premiere but according to what I heard, Aurelie Dupont is a wonderful Sylphide, she is brilliant, light, and understood completely romantic style. Mathieu Ganio seemt to be very good technically and the opinions change concerning his acting, some find him wonderful, other too scolar.

I hope you will enjoy your performance with Mathieu and Isabelle. I know that I saw Isavelle when she just entered in corps in Taglioni/Lacotte version of Le papillon and I was completely charmed by her way to dance, her light, her style. I think she could be interesting in this part  !

  4. José Martinez should be replaced by Stéphane Phavorin but perhaps not on all his dates.

Stéphane Phavorin is sujet of POB and replace some years ago Manuel Legris injuried on stage at the end of the second variation in act 2. But he never dance the full part. It's a good news for a bad news  !

  5. I think it's completely Mathieu's technical possibilities. And I suppose that Direction will cancel the movie or Pierre Lacotte himself cancel the movie if they suppose that Mathieu will not be good as James.

It sure that he never dance this part, but I have completely confidence in him

  6. I don't understand why people are shocking because a young dancer is recorded in a movie. It's sure that in Paris it's unusual to have young "principals" but in all the other countries, principals are young and they're the star of the ballets. For example Polina Semionova who is 19 year is Cinderella in Malakhov version.

I think that Pierre Lacotte agrees for this choice. He dislike Letestu's Paquita, and Martinez never dance with Aurélie Dupont very strangely. Mathieu is not too tall for Aurélie as he was a bit small for Agnès  !

Jean-Guillaume Bart will dance Diamonds in the Spanish tour with Marie-Agnès Gillot. As you said, Estelle, Kader Belarbi and Laurent Hilaire don't dance this part from a long time. I don't believe that Kader danced James, and theorically Laurent Hilaire has left his Etoile career for a Ballet master one ! Nicolas Le Riche don't dance the part this year and was already recorded this year in Ivan le Terrible. I don't think that James is his best part too. Mathieu Ganio was by fact the only one etoile able to dance this part.

I don't think that Pierre Lacotte wants to cancel the movie because of him. He wants absolutely have Aurélie Dupont in one of his production since Paquita. Aurelie should be filmed in Paquita but she injuried herself and the recording was postponed, it's for that Agnès Letestu and José Martinez were filmed in Paquita, but it was not the choice of Lacotte.

We must not forget that Lacotte made record his own Coppelia with POb School of Ballet and with Charline Giezendanner and a young pupil called.......... Mathieu Ganio  !

  7. It's not enough. To broadcast it once on some foreign channel in the middle of the night, and then shelve it, never to use it again - that's not very useful.

It's sure that it will be just for a night but you know perfectly that ballet amators loves to see this kind of problem and own material to record it  . It will be better to diffuse the great galas that some other people who never go to Ballet can see and can go after than never diffuse it.

In Russia they broadcast too many Bolshoi or Kirov Ballets on Kultura channel and it's good to can see Limpid stream, Notre-Dame de Paris, Bayadere, Eifman's ballet or other productions like that even if they don't make video after. For me it's also interesting to have the both thing !

  8. Without make commercial video, they can broadcast gala on TV as they do for the Royal Ballet cloture or opening Gala of Royal Opera House of Covent Garden or some other galas. It's not because they broadcast it, they will not fill the show room  !

  9. Concerning Claude Bessy, they made a special documentary about her career called "Claude Bessy ou la Force d'un destin". We saw her when she was rehearsing Béjart's Concours where she was Miss Maud, the ballet teacher who discovered the young Ada. But it's sure that they should record the gala with all the "pupils" as well the Nureyev's one. I think the French video market is not hungry about these kind of documents.

We must recognize that they make several recording since some years, as Hurlevent, Clavigo, le Parc for the contemporary works. Signes by Carlson should be issue very soon I suppose as it was recorded with Marie-Agnès Gillot and Kader Belarbi, Ivan le Terrible was also recorded with Eleonora Abbagnato, Nicolas Le Riche and Karl Paquette, they must recorded Sylphide with Aurélie Dupont, Manuel Legris, Mélanie Hurel as Effie and Isabelle Ciaravola and Mathieu Ganio as scottish pdd. Next year they must record Neumeier's Sylvia with the cast which must be film next year (Eleonora Abbagnato, Manuel Legris, Nicolas Le Riche, Delphine Moussin and Wilfried Romoli),, they must also record Jeune homme et la mort with Nicolas Le Riche and I presume Marie-Agnès Gillot and Carmen with Clairemarie Osta, against we don't know who must dance Don José with her !

  10. POB announced in the Mathieu's Ganio nomination text that he will dance James the 1st and 5 th of july. He will dance with Isabelle Ciaravola

Manuel Legris announced on his website he must dance june 28 , and july 10, 12 and 13 july. These performance will be recorded for a new movie. He must dance with Aurélie Dupont, after her wonderful Giselle, she will be certainly interesting as Sylphide.

Benjamin Pech must dance with Delphine Moussin two times.

Laetitia Pujol doesn't dance the part because I presume she should dance Emeralds in the spanish tour of POB from june 30 to july 11 in Madrid and Barcelona.

  11. I saw yesterday night Aurélie Dupont and Carlos Acosta, and I must say I really loved their pertformance. Aurélie Dupont became a true actress on stage and is a perfect Kitri, she looks sometimes in the way of Katharina of The taming of the Shrew, but she is the character with her hot temperament. She added too many things to her view about the part since two years. She is always good technically, even if the Dulcinea variation was not what I'm waiting for her, she didn't really stay in balance on her toes, as she seems have a problem, but she had no problem with balance in the adagio third act and in her fouettés. It was a Kitri that Nureyev should love  !

Concerning Acosta, I found him very interesting, he has a kind of handsome and don't make just "circus" as too many cuban dancers, his jump are high, with fine reception, his "double assemblées" were all perfect. His coda in the third act was a great moment of dance, what a beautiful manege of coupé jetés ! And his play is fine, his couple with Aurelie goes well and he is a wonderful partner ! I really enjoyed him  .

In the second role, Isabelle Ciaravola was always so wonderful as Queen of the Dryad and she tries to make balance at each developpé and she has lyricism and poetry  . Mélanie Hurel is not really interesting in Cupid, she dances very well, but she is not Cupid in her play. She is too shy. Yann Saiz is always too much in Espada, Eleonora Abbagnato is technically good as Street dancer but she is not too vulgar for the part. In Kitri's friend, I don't like Mathilde Froustey who is "too much", she raise too her leg, move too her arm, her face and her neck, against Myriam Ould Braham is perfect, she has stylicism, don't move too many  !

Dorothée Gilbert is always perfect in Bridemaids even if she seems a few tired on stage yesterday night.

Corps are perfect and I don't forget Jean-Marie Didière as Don Quichotte, so good, Mallory Gaudion is funny in Gamache and Fabien Roques is also very good as Sancho Pança.

A very good evening :D where public seems to love, it's the first time dancer are so applaused, and they have till a standing ovation.

  12. After the young and the POB dancer, it's no the time of the guest artist. First of the both, Roberto Bolle, the second will be Carlos Acosta with Aurélie Dupont.

Roberto Bolle is really interesting, he is an handsome dancer as the French POB dancer and he has this stylicism necessary to the part. He seems to have not problem with the technical parties and is a pleasant Basilio  ! At the beginning of the variation of the third act, he made a long balance and his leg doesn"t move at all. He danced the part without "circus", but with handsome, stylicism, and he has completely understood Noureev stylicism ! He is a good partner and he seems to have work with Agnès because we don't see difference due to a lack of rehearsals :) !

Agnès Letestu is a less interesting than with Mathieu Ganio, but she seems to be injuried at the beginning. She just danced, she played, but she was less convincing than with Mathieu. She seems to be in a gala part at the end and not at the Marriage of the two characters !

Aurore Cordellier is better and better in Queen of Dryad, Myriam Ould Braham is a cute Cupid with technical and spirit ! Nathalie Riqué is always the best Street dancer, but Yann Saiz is not really an Espada as I love him. He is always too much, and makes me laugh in the fandango with the noise of his shoes on the floor  !

Vanessa Legassy and Emilie Cozette are Kitri's friend but lacks of peps ! Dorothée Gilbert is one more time extraordinary as Bridemaids, she plays with music, balance, slow and quick tours, and so on. Really a future etoile on stage :) ! Emmanuel Thibault in gypsy boy was very dissapointing, he is not made for this part where he jumps less higher than all the other gypsy corps, and he lacks of authority in this part. But I think Gypsy boy is not his technic  !

Simon Valastro is a good Sancho Pança, less vulgar than Fabien Roques, and Jean-Marie Didière is unforgettable as Don Quixote where he is a poet, an old man lost in his dream.

I hope that Bolle will come next year to dance Sleeping Beauty, because he is really dancer as I love  with all the handsome and the joy of dance on stage !

  13. At first, I don't have biased views about dancers, but I think I have the right to explain my own opinion  . If I don't love some dancers, it's because I'm waiting a certain stylicism from POB dancers, and don't want see just jump a dancer, even good are the jumps  but I go to see them to hope change my advice :) !

Yesterday, I look the second performance of Eleonora Abbagnato and Karl Paquette, premiers danseurs of POB. It's sure that they are not spanish, they are all both blond hair, but they understood completely the mood of the ballet and it was a very good performance, totally in the spirit of Noureev !

Eleonora is very surprising, she has beautiful arabesques, she was very well partnered by Karl Paquette. At the second act, she is a beautiful vision, very "woman", maybe is it the default of the dancer, she is perhaps too woman for the part. But she plays all the ballet, even in the Grand pas where she doesn't forget she is Kitri who's married to Basilio and she is not just dancing a gala pdd :) ! She smiled, have the good look, she makes beautiful variation, perhaps castagnettes was not too joyfull. Her vision is also interesting despite sets problems, and she completely succeed in the fouettes. She seems happy on stage.

Karl Paquette is not the technician for the first act where the choreography is completely by Nureyev, but he succeed completely in the third act, where it's the traditionnal version, except at the end of his variation but even etoile lacks some steps in this variation. He makes a beautiful manege of coupés jetés and is a very good partner, no problem with the portés at one hand, which are long and without difficulties, no problem in adagio, and his play is very interesting too and he is a pleasant Basilio  .

Isabelle Ciaravola was absolutely wonderful as Queen of the Dryads  . she tries to balance at each leg raise of the beginning of the variation, and she is musical, lyrical, really a pleasure for the eyes  . Myriam Kamionka is a cute Cupid. As Kitri's friends, Dorothée Gilbert is absolutely complete and has completely understand Nureyev style, she doesn't raise her legs, and has the good movement of head and shoulders, Karine Villagrassa is interesting too, but has not the technic of Dorothée and some pdd are not completely together.

Nathalie Riqué is the most beautiful Street Dancer of the serial, she has the vulgar attitude of the character and is good dancing. Against Yann Saiz as Espada, makes me laugh, he is too much :P and he dances Fandango as Zapateado  !

Emilie Cozette is very dissapointing, she was a great hope of POB, two or three years ago, but she seems lost all her qualities  !

It was a good evening, where we have a true dance couple on stage.

  14. Emmanuel Thibault can't to be an etoile IN POB. He can be etoile in any other companies but he has not the required stylicism of French school and the possibilities to dance ALL the French repertory which is also very modern :o .

He is a brilliant technician, but not a typical Opera de Paris dancer, it's the difference and it's why, he is not promoted, he is sujet and showed sunday he was not a partner, when you see at every pdd his face change of expression and become frightened, it show some limits as well on acting  .

Mathieu Ganio is certainly a few young, and a nomination during next Sleeping Beauty will be also early and more normal. But it's evident that Mathieu deserves completely POB great Tradition of Manuel Legris, Jean-Guillaume Bart, and so on, the handsome of the dancer  .

In POB, Basilio is not considered as a character part but as true great part with variations and partnership as well Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and so on :blushing: . And all the noble dancer danced this part (Manuel Legris, Jean-Guillaume Bart, and so on).

What is sure it's POB is not Kirov or Royal Ballet, and they don't have the same criters to choose a principal dancer than in other companies  . We don't forget that Don Quixote is a Nureyev production with a supplementary entry, as well a variation in first act and the windmill pdd and variation  even the adagio of Grand pas, and the male variation is different of the Petipa's traditionnal version.

Against it's sad for Benjamin Pech, but it's sure that Direction has some secrets that we don't know :shhh:

  15. At first, concerning the matinee, I agreed completely with Juliet.

I must say that the problem of Thibault is not really a problem of Dancer, but a problem of the kind of Dancer we must see at POB and Thibault is not of this kind, it's certainly for that he never has be promoted  ! He has not French and Nureyev style. It's really viewable when we saw in the same week the young Mathieu Ganio who has just 20 years but dance with all the French and Nureyev style (thanks M. Hilaire  !) and Emmanuel Thibault.

Certainly he is a magnificent technician, and his variation are well danced, despite some faults. He is not an actor, and it has no alchimy between the two partners, especially in first ac.

Dorothée Gilbert is as said Clement Crisp a marvel, he compares him to the young Plissetskaia, waouh :D ! I didn't saw her young, but Dorothée should make a beautiful career as Maia. She is absolutely wonderful, she played, she is a technical dancer, but she is in the pure Nureyev style of this ballet. And what a vision scene, I never saw one of this kind since I go to POB, even Loudières was not so moving, so flying in the entry, it was magical  !

Concerning the comparison between Monique Loudières and Dorothée Gilbert, it's the same kind of dancer they have the same kind of look, they present some similar form of face

    http://www.imagidanse.com/graphismes/press...chaikovski2.jpg - Dorothée Gilbert

    http://www.imagidanse.com/graphismes/artistes/loudieres.jpg - Monique Loudières

they present also some way to move which are the same, they don't make 6'o clock, they have the style of the ballets. It's very hard to explain in word, what is so viewable  !

  16. Just a precision, Manuel Legris was 21 when he was nominated and not 22 as well as Nicolas Le Riche, Laurent Hilaire was 23 when he was nominated. It's sure that Mathieu is promoted very, very quickly and this promotion is special, especially, when you saw that all the last nominated etoile were nominated almost late and with too many parts they dance.
