  1. Besides Tatiana Terekhova's fantastic Gamzatti in the 1977 Kirov video of "La Bayadere", what other filmed performances of hers would everyone recommend? Thanks!
  2. Thanks, Mme. Hermine. But I own the soundtrack and the vocal piece I'm looking for is not on it.
  3. I recently saw the film "Henry & June" and their is a song or opera aria heard during one of the Henry Miller/Anais Nin love scenes that isn't featured in the end credits or on the soundtrack. The piece sounds like Debussy or Ravel. Does anyone know what this work is? Thank you.
  4. Who are your favorite Manons?
  5. Makarova's Act I was just as strong and eloquent as her Act II, IMO. She captured Giselle's innocence and fragility perfectly.
  6. Who has the loveliest bouree of ballerinas past and present? My favorites are: Margot Fonteyn Violette Verdy Natalia Bessmertnova All three ladies had a feathery, velvety bouree. I open the floor to discussion.
  7. Vasiliev and Baryshnikov for the men Plisetskaya, Sizova, Makarova and Terekhova for the ladies
  8. I wish I'd seen LeClerq too. Lourdez Lopez was a lovely Dewdrop.
  9. In the 50 years since George Balanchine's THE NUTCRACKER premiered, many dancers have danced the lead ballerina role. Which ballerinas are your favorite Sugar Plum Fairies? I must say Melissa Hayden because she was the first one I saw in 1971. My other favorite was Suzanne Farrell who I saw dance SPF in 1986. How I would have loved to see Violette Verdy, Allegra Kent and Patty McBride dance the role.
  10. Does anyone know where I can purchase Violette Verdy's "Ballerina"? Thank you.
  11. What is the difference between a raked stage and a non-raked stage?
  12. Cygnet, Here's a link to the German Amazon site where you can buy Manon: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000...4685628-7523240
  13. Jane, Did you enjoy Cinderella? If you don't want to review it until more of us have the dvd, I understand.
  14. Has anyone received the Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella DVD's starring Margot Fonteyn?
  15. Silvy, Ferri has danced in one classical role that I know of: Nikiya in LA BAYADERE opposite Julio Bocca. If I'm wrong about this, please someone chime in, but Ferri isn't known as a strong classical dancer. To my knowledge she has never danced SWAN LAKE, SLEEPING BEAUTY, RAYMONDA because she doesn't have the formidable technique required for these ballets. She excels in dramatic roles like MacMillan's Juliet and Manon.
  16. These releases are so exciting. I wonder if they will be available on Amazon where, hopefully, they can be purchased at a more affordable price?
  17. Here is the Terekhova article posted on August 23 by Ari: An article in the Miami Herald about a school run by Vladimir Issaev that teaches the Vaganova style.
  18. If anyone is interested in purchasing this DVD, please e-mail me. My asking price is $15.00 US, which includes first-class shipping.
  19. During my last visit to the Lincoln Center Library I watched a film excerpt of Nureyev and Alla Sizova dancing Le Corsaire pdd at the Kirov Graduation Performance in 1958. Sizova was a revelation to me. Her beautiful extensions and soft, space-devouring jumps were breathtaking. I've seen her in the 1964 Sleeping Beauty film, but otherwise it's been difficult to find biographical/repertoire information and videos on Sizova. I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I'd also like to know who her coach was. Thank you .
