  1. Nov. 4 Matinee. You have to skip to the next month.

Ugh! :angry2: The work we have to do to get information!

The cover of the CC season brochure shows Julie and Marcelo in Leaves Are Fading and K Boone and I Stappas in Baker's Dozen.Maybe, this will be the planned casting.Any ideas for LAF casting?Stella/David?

  2. In a Dance Magazine interview(2-3 years ago?),K Mc mentioned that among the future plans of ABT included productions of Ashton's Sylvia and Napoli. If they do Napoli, i hope he will leave the staging to someone from RDB. Did anyone hear about this possible production?

  3. the library indicates it has these and none seem marked as restricted or closed:

Raymonda [videorecording] / American Ballet Theatre ; choreography by Anna-Marie Holmes after Marius Petipa ; conceived and directed by Anna-Marie Holmes and Kevin McKenzie ; music by Alexander Glazounov, adapted by Ormsby Wilkins. U.S.

    c2004.

Look again, the corps de ballet in performance [American Ballet Theatre] [videorecording] : Works & process at the Guggenheim / [performance series producer, Mary Sharp Cronson]. U.S.

    2003.

Variations on a theme by Haydn [videorecording] / [presented by] American Ballet Theatre ; choreography by Twyla Tharp ; music by Johannes Brahms (Variations on a theme by Haydn for orchestra, Op. 56a)

    c2000.

American Ballet Theatre's new Swan lake [videorecording] : Works & Process at the Guggenheim / performance series producer, Mary Sharp Cronson ; choreography by Kevin McKenzie after Ivanov and Petipa ; music by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky. U.S. 2000.

Can these tapes be viewed by nondancers? :blushing:
  4. In fact, I think any future contracts offered to KMcK should have a "no choreography" clause.

Amen to that, and to losing the block scheduling. I know it would be fruitless to ask them not to cast every single female principal in every title role but that would also go a long way towards improving the spring season.

I would love to see ABT do more Ashton - Monotones, Les Patineurs, Symphonic Variations, Rhapsody & The Two Pigeons are on my wishlist.

In addition to commissioning new work I'd also love to see them present a little more from their own past (Massine, Lichine and keep reviving Fokine, Tudor & de Mille) as well as bringing in productions from current and recent ballet choreographers like Bejart, Cranko, Petit, Neumier and Forsythe.

Gala Performance sounds perfect for the Tudor Centennial, and Dale suggested perfect casting. In addition to Tudor's R&J (which I've never seen) I'd love to see a revival of Lilac Garden. I can see the first cast - Kent as Caroline, Saveliev as The Man She Must Marry, Gomes as her Lover and Murphy as the Other Woman. Then Abrera/Stappas/Corella/Boone. Or Lane/Radetsky/Cornejo/Copeland…

    or Fang/Pastor/Hallberg/Wiles

  5. Kajiya is no surprise at all. BRAVA - at last!!!

It is great news. I'm not very familiar with Kajiya but I look forward to seeing her. All others I am familiar with and each is special in his/her own way. I'm glad ABT went with variety.

Funny, a few years ago I thought ZHONG-JING FANG was soon to be soloist material. Maybe she still is but seems to have lost steam. It's a difficult profession!

i have always had the same thought and was slightly disappointed that she was not included in this batch(all deserving thier promotion) but she has what it takes to be a soloist(or eventually, a principal)Let us just hope that it will not take ABT a very long time for the next promotions. :lightbulb::dunno:

  6. James Wolcott's blog indicates that Part is injured and can't dance. ABT's website confirms that Dvorovenko and Beloserkovsky will dance instead. Part/Gomes are still listed on the ABT calendar but if you go to "purchase tickets" and click through to Swan Lake you will see the substitution

It is too bad for this injury to happen now to Veronika. She could have shown Mr. Macauley what she can do with the right role for her.I hope it not serious and we will see her next season.

  7. Any bets who gets Ballo? My guess is first cast Murphy-Stiefel, second cast Lane-Cornejo :beg: .

You are probably right but a Murphy- Hallberg cast would be nice too.Any ideas for "Leaves..." :lightbulb:

Abrera maybe, she is unlike Kirkland (who I saw in the role) but has an air of mystery and fluidity that might work.

A connected topic - ABT is ripe for promotions. I had assumed that Part would become a principal soon. Is that happening? Could Abrera be on the principal track? Also, I have been rooting for a Lane promotion to soloist. Are any promotions likely to be announced any time soon? I feel like this site is sometimes like "the oracle."

Unfortunately, K Mckencie doesn't listen to "the oracle" but the ABT higherups seems to be pushing J Mathews to more soloist roles than any other male member of the corp. There seems more promising females than males in the present group. Any other names? :FIREdevil:

  8. Carlos Lopez sustained an injury serious enough to keep him off the stage for a year. To my eyes, he is not all the way back yet. He is a very musical and charming dancer. Perhaps he will regain form by the fall or next year.

No, he is not a technician the likes of Cornejo but who is?

Curious, though, that Salstein wasn't tapped for a Mercutio.

Craig danced Mercutio, including the Mandolin solo, with the Paloma-Marcelo cast. I thought , he was terrific. :flowers:

  9. Oh, I completely forgot to mention the single reason I decided to go and see 2/3 of the Saturday matinee (after Kyra's soulful last Mozartiana). Sarah Lane was stunningly beautiful as Princess Florine. Shimmering epaulment, breathtaking balances (lingering beautifully but never excessive) perfect purity of line – an unforgettable performance.

    NYSusan,

"Shimmering epaulment, breathtaking balances, perpect purity of line", it sounds like you're describing a memorable Aurora! :FIREdevil:
