  1. Agreed. It just pains me to think that yet another deserving dancer is left behind. KM undeservedly, sidelined so many over his tenure or, worse, promoted them almost past their prime.
  2. I’m a tad surprised at this. Coker has barely done anything else but soloist and principal roles for the last 3 seasons before her injury, which is almost fully healed. She has more than proven her readiness many times over, IMO.
  3. …and Zimmi Coker as Gertrudis!!!
  4. Zimmi Coker is cast as Gertrudis in 4 shows. That’s a perfect role for her! Glad to see Jaffe sees her talent. Can’t wait to see it.
  5. Yes, I had the same reaction at the time of the promotions last year. Although I to think that the new blood is going to be great for ABT, and that both Park and Misseldine have great promise, I also believe that dancing in the corps de ballet, for at least two seasons, is particularly good experience and conveys that the promotion has been earned. These promotions, I thought, were premature and took president over those who, in my opinion, were more deserving one of whom, was Zimmi Coker. I was also perplexed that there were no male promotions save one. I truly hope that Jaffe recognizes the talent and promise that Coker brings and that her time for a promotion has come!
  6. Yeah, I never knew that either. Kind of a drag!
  7. But think how enjoyable it would be to see them again in 2024! 😀
  8. Ugh…SL, Giselle, R & J again??? I love all of these ballets but something else would really be nice for a change! What about Onegin, Cinderella, Coppelia, Manon, Sylvia, Spartacus, Carmen, Mayerling, A month in the Country, Daphnis and Chloe just to name a few. I guess Like Water for Chocolate is it next spring!
  9. I saw the performance Sunday afternoon. Gillian Murphy was lovely. She may be near the end of her career, but she’s definitely the reigning ballerina at ABT. Cornejo too, though not as incredible as he was in his heyday, he still commands the stage. This performance was the first time I’ve seen Carmago. Oberon is a good role for him and while I enjoyed his performance, I was a little disappointed in his jumps that I thought were a bit floor bound. The corps looked good, the four fairies were excellent and Mahoney was good as Bottom. The only sections of The Dream that I disliked are the two couples. I think it actually takes very high caliber dancers to pull those roles off, and unfortunately the dancers on Sunday were not able to do that. I agree with other posters that the fairy costumes were all too similar and would’ve preferred more delineation between the corps fairies, four fairies and Tatiana. This was actually the first time I saw The Seasons. While I enjoyed the first half, the second half was a bit chaotic and didn’t really make sense to me. Of the women: most enjoyable were Misseldine (I see Nikiya in her future), Coker (remind me again why she wasn’t promoted? I really hope Jaffe corrects that and quickly!), and Hurlin (just, wow). Of the men: I thought for the most part they looked good, some better than others. I thought Forster did a good job, I’m not a big fan of Royal but he did well with Hurlin. Although he had issues with the end of his solo, Gonzalez impressed. Really good jumps I hope he stays healthy and gets better roles in the future. Now…those costumes! I didn’t mind Winter that much, the Spring trio was ok as was the Autumn lead couple but my lord, the others were truly hideous. I can’t believe they were allowed on stage. Yikes!
  10. Is it just me, or has there been a lot of male injuries this year? It’s too bad about Stearns, that must be so frustrating for him. I hope he recovers quickly. I am seeing tomorrow’s matinee, however, and have not seen Carmargo yet so I’m looking forward to that.
  11. Just saw today’s matinee. Zimmi Coker lit up the stage in more ways than one. Not sure what happened In the first act but the energy, and even the dancing, was surprisingly low key, even dull. This is my first performance back since COVID shut everything down and I have to say, I was very surprised but when Coker came out in act 2, everything came alive. I am aware that act 2 in and of itself is much more vibrant from sets to music to choreography. However, I was a bit confused that Coker did not get promoted to soloist last go round but now, I have to say I am completely baffled. Think there was a real injustice there! Now that I’ve settled down, I realized I hadn’t mentioned anything about Tyler Maloney. I understand he had been injured (both ankles) which is why he and Coker didn’t dance on Friday. I have not seen him do a lead role before and if he was not in top form today, I’m looking forward to seeing him when he is. Really good jumps and very clean. He and Coker danced well together too. The Mademoiselle Chartreuse trio did a good job, it’s an entertaining section. Someone above mentioned Ratmansky’s tendency towards too many steps for the music, which I would agree with. In addition, there were a couple of sections where the music just seemed out of place with the scene and choreography. Over all though, it’s a good production and the costumes/sets are truly incredible!
  12. My guess for PP debuts…Coker and Granlund!
  13. I can’t believe Zimmi Coker was not promoted. No offense to Park, but she barely has any experience with the company, let alone soloist roles and Zimmi has many. This is just not right.
