Amar updates on his farewell:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CeFIeSesNxJ/
He is splitting the role with Andrew Veyette. Veyette I assume will do the fast allegro opener of the divertissement and Amar will do the adagio pas with Hyltin?
Seems like a good solution that gives Amar the send-off he deserves.

Skylar Brandt said in an interview with Megan Fairchild that Kevin McKenzie gives you a heads up to be ready for a certain role, with the high likelihood that you'll get a performance because of either an injury or other reasons. You can either learn the role on your own volition, or you can actually wait to be cast.

Is Mistys Achilles injury preventing her from being cast in performing in the Met season coming up?
No she's on maternity leave.

I'm thrilled to see Anthony Huxley in literally anything so seeing him in Piano Pieces AND Spring was a double treat. He and Hyltin are well matched in size and style, it's odd they haven't danced much together (Mozartiana but that might be it?).
They did some beautiful performances of Duo Concertant and Scotch Symphony together.

Adrian D-W has covid.

Sara Mearns posted on her IG stories that she is dealing with a hamstring injury and will be out indefinitely.

Apparently a solo from Runaway was performed last night.

Chan posted on his IG stories that he's really sick too.

I'm hoping Sterling Hyltin does a few of the Symphony in 3 Mov'ts this spring. I love her in that ballet.
She is doing the ballet on May 3 and May 6.

How was the new Tanowitz? Good?

Week 3 casting is up.

So sad to read about Sterling Hyltin's retirement. What a lovely dancer.

I think with David Hallberg or Tiler Peck enough people remembered them pre-injury to know what was lost due to injury.
I think Misty was on the cusp of greatness and injury derailed her development. She still got starring roles but her range was limited post-injury.

Hope this doesn't seem harsh but just from someone who is interested in ballet and never danced myself- my impression from reading about Copeland's career is that she hadn't quite "made it" yet- she had received the principal title, but from what I've read over the years didn't seem up to the level she could potentially climb to (she seemed to admit that herself?) - she was working with that (I forget his name) teacher, completely re-working her technique, but then barely dancing to show whether she had reached a new level (of artistry as well as technique).. I just don't see how she would satisfied with her actual dancing career (as an artist, not an "activist")...but perhaps too many injuries made that impossible.
Misty popped her Achilles tendon and IMO hasn't been the same since. That injury is usually the very worst to recover from -- it ended Jennie Somogyis career as well as athletes like Kobe Bryant.

Yeah I doubt she'd be interested, even if she was qualified. My guess is, she'll retire soon and make the move out to Hollywood.
SWell right now she's on maternity leave.

Think a more apt comparison is the fact that Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, and Harvey Weinstein still have their Oscars.

SAG may well suspend him for a period. Keeping Smith from presenting a trophy next year is OK by me. But it wouldn't be Hollywood without embarrassing behavior and gaffs. It's a small group of mostly overpaid egotists, that have dedicated themselves to entertainment, and the good life. Sure, a few of these people think that they are producing 'art', but that is certainly debatable. Public apologies all round would make sense to me. Then there could be some 'healing' for these fragile, self-important souls. It just sucks to be a star.
Genuine question. Have you ever been around actors? Granted my experience is more with theater actors, but my experience is that most are just normal people.

The whole Bouder situation is very strange. There have been six farewells and Bouder hasn't attended any of them. Some of the people (like Gonzalo) she danced with for years and she used to be close to Lauren Lovette judging by social media. IDK what happened to her.
-
This happens a lot -- a charismatic celebrity takes over a large unwieldy arts organization and it doesn't go smoothly. Many people are shocked at the amount of bureaucracy, busy work, budgeting, and fundraising involved. Others aren't used to managing this many people.

So has Xander Parish (left the Mariinsky)

Xander Parish announced on IG that he is leaving Russia immediately.

If Misty inspires more black little girls to sign up for ballet class, that's IMO worth the trade-off of her not really being able to, say, complete 32 fouettes.
-
Well, the eye test in most ballet companies tells me "Pandora's Box" has NOT been opened, because representation of black ballerinas is still woefully inadequate in most major companies. Francesca Hayward, Misty Copeland, and Michaela de Prince are the exceptions not the rule.
