This may have been covered, but it seems Ramasar received pictures which he didn't protest and didn't circulate. Then he engaged in heavy duty, distasteful jock talk. Do I have that right?

I still don't see how NYCB can be liable for Miss Waterbury's dating life.

You are correct.  The Jock talk is not illegal.  The sharing of photos/videos is morally wrong.

  2. I just read the entire Amended Claims and it’s very disheartening.  Someone please tell Mariska Hargitay... I have a feeling this is going to be featured in this upcoming season’s Law & Order SVU episode.

Back to the discussion, it is disturbing to know that some of these vultures considered the company/school as “hunting ground” as referred to on the claim.  Not to genralized but I also wonder what was the appeal to these straight single young not-so-attractive men like Jared to enjoy a ballet performance.  His action disgust me.

In perspective, these ballerinas live ina bubble.  They grow up in the same school and went on to the company.  They do not have the same experience as us mere mortals of socializing in school and college.  I feel that us independent women found our self worth and confidence to stand up against the world even more through out our “18-22” age while in college faced in making good an bad decisions.   This same age group is what these vultures are hunting for.   I admire these ballerina greatly, but at that age we all went through a stage of learning about ourselves.   This Jared guy probably failed to prey on these ladies, hence utilizing these handsome men and teaching them his perverse way.  I’m beyond appalled at this point.

Going back to the topic of the article for a moment, what I find most potentially problematic about the Met's new schedule is less that the orchestra players will lose a weekend day to spend with their families, but that the orchestra will be playing four performances in less than 48 hours, which goes unmentioned.  Maybe the second trombone and the alto sax doesn't play all night and in every opera, but, for most scores, the strings and the woodwinds are in for hours and hours in each performance.  There is rotation, but I wonder if they'll get to hire more musicians to be alleviate that schedule. It's not just the repetitive stress, but also the toll it takes on hearing, to be blasted from behind.

Thanks for keeping us in track Helene.  I have never thought about the orchestra into consideration.  Still sad there will be less ballet to watch.  I wish they would just take the last week off in July instead of the month of May.

Doubtful.  If anything, prices may go up because donations may go way down.  They better start programming All Balanchine All The Time.

Since we have a President who bragged on tape that he can grab women by the you know what and get away with it, the subject incident at NYCB speaks to the coarseness of our times.  Voters didn't care, and maybe the audiences for NYCB won't care either.

Wow Brilliant!!!! I just realized this. Amazing!

ABATT = All Balanchine All The Time

  5. Stella was spectacular tonight!  Her acting was en pointe!

is it just me or I thought her chemistry with Paris (Thomas Forster) was much stronger?  He might be a better choice for Romeo.  Also, his performance has been exceeding Hammoudi.  I think Forster deserves a shot as a leading role.

  6. Just saw Boylston and Halberg.  Her Juliet is one of my new favorite in recent years.  She complete innoncence ans captures Juliet’s youth so perfectly.  She surenders herself to the role.

In act 3, she was devastated and confused, physically running into stuff in her desolation.  Love them!

So annoying. I assume Kourlas must know that his statement is complete BS (ballet is supposed to be a specialty of hers after all...), but just let it slide?

Stella was so good this week as Pierrette. Hers is the only Juliet I'm seeing and it's usually a 3-per-week ballet for me. The casting combinations are underwhelming (Misty + Herman intrigues me, but of course the ticket prices are sky high).

I wish Stella would be partnered by David, as advertised in the posters.  Imagine those beautiful dancers together with their long endless lines.

Why is that the case though? Isn't the Met season their only "main season" in the entire year? One would expect them to be fully prepared.

Yes true.  However they consider themselves a “touring” company.    They spend Fall season at the State Theatre, December doing Nutcracker, spring touring and visiting at least 4 cities and spend the rest of that time rehearsing for the Met.

  9. Back to topic and echoing most comments regarding act 2.  I found the children section to be too long and more over I was sitting around many of the parents and family who were wishpering and taking photos during Act 2.   With that many children on stage and so many family, it really did feel like a school recital.

i will be back tomorrow to see Bella/James who I hope will have a stronger portrayal of the characters.

In case anyone is curious, the new Ratmansky Harlequinade is 1hr 47mins, including one intermission. (The run time wasn't listed on the Met website, so I used the chat feature on their website and asked a customer service person.)

that's really short!  Which is good after the long La Bayadere nights I have had last week.  I am watching two shows this week, excited to get to bed early. :)

  11. I saw the show last night.  Besides the message of the choreography, I found the dancers to be dynamic... I love seeing all the stars on one stage at the same time.

IMO, Alessandra Ferri has the most expressive feet... she is so dramatic and beautiful on stage still, I love it.

I hope Trenary is okay. She was also supposed to dance Moyna or Zulma at the Wednesday matinee but was replaced (it was announced via loudspeaker).

Also, I can't believe side orchestra balance tickets for tonight have gone up to $200 (I just didn't realize that particular section ever went so high, even with dynamic pricing.)

$35 isn't a lot for a ticket, but I think it's too much for standing room.

I actually saw Trenary watching the show last night.  She was sitting on the side Parterre.

From watching many performances of Giselle over the years, I believe that Katherine Williams sets the Gold Standard for bourrees.

It was a wonderful debut as Myrta for Ms. Williams.  She commanded the stage.  I truly felt her presence during her solo performance at the beginning of Act II.  It would be so lovely to see her promoted this year.

  14. Long time reader here, finally join.  I feel that I have watched enough ballet to be ablet to contribute to discussion now.  Moved to NYC 10 years ago and have been so happy to be able to access so many wonderful shows.
