Me too, @nanushka! I was expecting Chun Wai Chan rather than Peter Walker. But I know he is highly respected as a partner, as per @vipa's recent comments on the Black Swan pdd with Isabella LaFreniere. Not being a professional dancer,  I am not the best judge of partnering, but that must be a huge plus.

I assume they want more than 2 seasons under his belt before promotion but I would expect it in the next year if he keeps up his current quality

I'm afraid that was the case for other siblings in the company over the years, where one sibling ended being a level higher than the other.  The only two I can recall that both were promoted to Principal were the Duell and Angle brothers, but I could be very wrong.

Megan and Robbie Fairchild were both principals

I'm hoping for a Peck/Mejia Swan Lake too. Last time she was paired with Gordon. They were a great match but Mejia is someone she's really built a rapport with recently. He is totally ready for big classical roles. I could see Gordon being paired with Phelan, assuming she gets a debut.

Phelan seems destined for a Swan Lake Debut

  4. I wonder if do to COVID not as many of the tenured principals are guesting and are taking up more casting spots at the top. Hopefully we will see some new blood in the later week, but I feel like they were all cast a lot less is past years. I imagine due to tenure they could request time for guesting, if feels like Megan Fairchild is on almost every night this year

Oh that’s terrible. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

this is terrible, Ashley's is such a talent. but I feared this would happen with dancers who took too much time off during quarantine and spun up too fast. their bodies aren't used to that whiplash. speedy recovery to Ashley, I hope to see her soon!

While the new ballets were not works I would seek out in future rep performances, I also did not think they were the worst ballets I've ever seen at NYCB (That distinction belongs to "Call Me Ben.)  These choreographers have limited or no ballet vocabulary, and the steps are repetitive.  The number of unsold seats was staggering.  Second ring looked about 40 percent sold, and first ring about 50 percent

The bright spot of course was Western Symphony.  Lauren King and Ask LaCour were joyous in the first movement.  Lovette was adorable, but she could not manage any of the Italian Fouettes required for her part.  I had flashbacks to her awful performance in Swan Lake's 3rd act.   Emily Kikta was terrific in the final movement.  She just needs a little more sass.

makes me wonder why they decided to debut Lovette in Western Symphony when she had few performances before retirement

  7. As someone who can rarely get to NYC I have LOVED all the digital programming, but would definitely like to see whole pieces. For instance Diamonds last year took my breath away I can't remember how many times I watched it. IF it was only presented in excerpts it wouldn't have been able to truly appreciate it. My local company tries to do Balanchine, but it leaves me just wanting to see more NYCB.

Agree with everyone on promotions, I feel like there hasn't been much movement with the new regime.

But filming has been wrapped for a while, and Brittany Pollack was also cast and she's dancing this season. Coll's continued absence is concerning.

I believe I saw on Indiana Woodward's instagram that he is injured

  9. Sara Mearns was on the latest With Dance and Stuff podcast and they have a really interesting conversation about why she gave up Lilac Fairy. If you just want to listen to Sara you can skip ahead to 13:46

  10. I understand where Ashley can come off as self important in the article, but I also applaud her for speaking out. If she hadn't then we would not know how much of an influence Martins still holds. I find it appalling that he was able to behave this way considering the reasons for his exit. I place that blame solely at the foot of the board who still seem to hold him in greater esteem than the dancers. I think it is fair for her to criticize why she was switched cast if it was truly done at the last minute. Maybe bringing to light these issues will speed along the reform that needs to happen and finally have them decide on an AD. As she said in one of her posts about the Waterbury incident, these things have festered in their leaderless state. NYCB needs to get their act together, while the performance on stage seems to still be strong that may not continue without a strong foundation.

Also I am so happy to hear about Woodward's debut, I hope this heralds a promotion to principle.
