  1. Drew, if I could give you a standing ovation, I would. You are bang on.
  2. I suppose it just goes to show that everyone has their opinion! As I said earlier in the thread I remember hearing in Seattle how fantastic the Nutcracker here is. So, I'm excited to see it. I remember now it was called Cruel World the one I saw in New York of his. Totally sublime. I remember the entire audience leapt to their feet. And looks like I'll be making a trip to Boston as Artifact is one of the best ballets I have ever seen. If you haven't seen it could not recommend it more. Regarding NYC I recall seeing the Forsythe works Herman Scherman at NYcB and workwithinwork at ABT. I also saw Petit Mort (mind blowing) and Overgrown Path of Kylian with ABT. But yes perhaps you're right that (for the east coast at least) it is Boston Ballet who mainly shows this type of work most regularly these days. Maybe Canadian audiences simply aren't interested in seeing these types works. Surely the leaders here do their research when planning seasons and maybe it was shown that audiences want more Disney type or big name story ballets and less contemporary or new work in which case who can blame them for programming this way. Anyway, who is down for a Boston road trip ?
  3. Also regarding NYC it provides me my opportunity to see all the wonderful Balanchine ballets as well as some Kylian and Forsythe repertoire as well. I developed my love for each on the west coast where both PNB and San Francisco perform it regularly.
  4. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the Kudelka works as I've heard nothing but good things and actually saw some of his work at ABT and loved it. I am not however a fan of Neumier. I find his works overly long and pretentious. I'm open to seeing ASND though since the source material is so good. Curious to see how it translates to dance. And yes what you say about paying the bills through programming seems exactly right. Funny how every country and or company tends to have a particular focus and maybe here it is family friendly dance. I suppose that's great if you're into family friendly dance.
  5. I like your thinking volcanohunter ))
  6. Am I the only one who finds the season program...less than stellar? The only things I'm interested in seeing are Swan Lake, Cinderlla and Onegin. And for the prices they are asking...Pinocchio? I mean, seriously, Pinocchio? Why don't they do Balanchine? Or Forsythe? Or Kylian? I may need to make some Nyc trips to feed my ballet addiction. Feeling bummed.
  7. Thanx volcanohunter! Watching class on stage could be fun! And of course I already got my tickets for Giselle before I saw about this promo code. Oh well. . Now I'm in the mailing list at least. I see there is also a ballet gala coming up. I'm seriously considering it as galas are always a good chance to see a variety of small gems. I just wish we knew what it will be? Weird that they don't advertise what they're going to be doing. And thanks for the heads up about casting probably not going up for a while. Odd how things seem to be a bit last minute here generally or maybe I'm just used to companies like ABT outlining performance specifics in plenty of time. I'd think that would generate buzz and ticket sales but I was also a biology major so lol
  8. *whoops I see now they have some Giselle shows! Looking forward to it.
  9. Thank u naomikage. I had plans on keeping a lookout for Dronina as once while in Amsterdam for a work conference I saw her with Dutch National Ballet and was very impressed. I now have my tickets booked and decided to splurge lol. I'm on the orchestra. I think the excitement of my new surrounding made me throw caution to the wind and just go for it lol. Now I just hope the level of performance lives up to it. I can't imagine they could be charging this much and not have the very best quality. So I'm going to stay positive for now and just anticipate greatness!!! Lol. I know that I've been pretty spoiled where I'm from what with Pacific Northwest and San Francisco Ballets. I'm a pretty avid ballet goer as I'm sure everyone here is and feel confident in saying that they always present fantastic high caliber work and so I'm hoping for this here! Now I just have to twiddle my thumbs until The Little Prince actually goes onstage. Then I guess they are done for the season.
  10. Better than American Ballet Theatre?! Haven't heard that before but Woah now I am excited. And thanks for the heads up on the ring. I will avoid it if possible as I do actually have vertigo!!
  11. Yikes!!! I had no idea the ballet company here had some of the most expensive tickets in North America. Well one can then safely expect that what is presented on stage is world class. Good to hear about the rush seats naomikage! Thanks for the heads up. And I wish I was that young kbarber but maybe I can see if I can swing it!! LOL Also it's funny volcanohunter because one of the first things I heard when moving here was "you will love the Nurcracker up there it is phenomenal" so I guess everyone has their opinion!! Too bad there doesn't seem to be any ballet on here for a while.
  12. Well, call me crazy, but my goodness are tickets expensive here! Just browsing at options but it seems that attending the ballet is much more expensive here in Canada. At least compared to what I am used to in the Pacific Northwest. I wonder if this is normal? Either way I need my ballet "fix" so I will just have to make it work. . . LOL
  13. Oh this is very sad. One never knows the inner workings of institutions like this but no one can deny the amazing repertoire and energy Mr. Kobborg has brought there in his few years at the helm.
  14. Thank you very much Helene! I apologize for my tardy response. I am still getting used to "being online" here lol. I appreciate your thoughtful response. I am even more excited now. I have recently moved north of the border and have been missing my PNB performances alot. Thankfully I have this upcoming trip to look forward to and it coinciding with this production is icing on the cake.
  15. I've just gotten tickets to go see Coppelia however have just realized it is the Balanchine version! Has anyone seen it? I'm excited at the idea and can't believe I've gone on all this time not realizing he did his own version. The last time I saw Coppelia was in London around 2004. It was lovely.
