  1. I just clicked on the announcement. Cook and Calegari were replaced by Stephanie Saland. Judy Kinberg, who produced many of the “Great Performances” episodes, will also be there.
  2. Aren’t there laws for creating a hostile work environment though? Every year, regardless of where I work, I have to watch some webinar on harassment in the work place and they specifically warn about behaviors like for example audible locker room talk, making suggestive comments or playboy pics on your computer desktop

I don’t think Joy was a competition kid, though she did a few. I saw her more as someone who lacked the natural talent of someone like say Diana Vishneva but worked extremely hard to get to where she is today. A fanatic to the highest degree really. Her solution to any setbacks seemed to be more time at the barre, time spent trying diet and medical fads, and just working herself to death. That mindset and fanaticism can lead to burnout, especially when things don’t exactly go according to plan.
  4. Not fall but April 3-6, Osipova and Hallberg will be performing https://www.nycitycenter.org/pdps/2018-2019/Osipova-Hallberg/?utm_source=wordfly&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DEV19MemPresaleOnSaleACQ&utm_content=version_A
  5. Did she switch teachers? Semenyaka doesn’t mention her in this interview https://musicseasons.org/tot-kto-nashel-sebya-v-balete-fanatichno-emu-predan/ And noticed her with Kondratieva’s dancers
  6. I remember a friend had the H stolen from his Honda and he was parked right in the university garage. Back to Denis Ten, this was one of the most beautiful men’s programs
  7. I’m surprised Marchenkova hasn’t been promoted as her body of work has been stronger than Zhiganshina’s. But maybe she’s too old for Vaziev
  8. I’m not a big fan of Tsvirko but after Lobukhin and Vasiliev, he was the lead most suited to the warrior roles, particularly Spartacus- strong, powerful, swaggering.
  9. Zhiganshina has been promoted to Soloist per the Bolshoi site
  10. This isn’t the graduation but an anniversary gala featuring students from various top academies plus the Bolshoi Vaganova alum doing variations of Paquita
  11. I saw the matinee performance. I agree the children’s numbers did not work. It was too obvious that there were a wide range of abilities and the weaker kids stood out like a sore thumb. Not their fault but it really does affect the overall enjoyment since it is a large part of the ballet. And also agree that there was just too much miming. However, I thought Gabe Stone Shayer was fantastic and really captured the whimsiness (if that is the right word) of a harlequin.
  12. I’ve seen at least some potential in almost all of Vaziev’s chosen ones, even if they are not really ready for the roles given. However for the life of me, I cannot understand his thing for Antonina Chapkina. I happened to see her live once when she was at La Scala and found her completely lacking in any musicality or grace and her turns were so out of control that I wondered if she had some inner ear infection. Yet I see her being given some variations and solo roles at the Bolshoi including Queen of the Dryads and the videos I’ve seen since joining the Bolshoi have not changed my opinion at all about her.
  13. It’s been reported that as he takes on more of the queen’s duties (and presumably some of the Queen’s and Prince Philip’s own patronages) , he won’t be able to devote as much time to the patronages he already has and has already been trying to transfer some of them to William and Harry
  14. I’d be interested to see if Prince Charles stays on as patron of the Royal Opera House or if he will give the patronage to one of his children when he becomes king.
  15. This is a bit far out in November but thought I’d put this out there. This talk is more about staging his works for TV and the panel will include Maria Calegari and Bart Cook, as well as Sondra Lee and Grover Dale. https://www.paleycenter.org/2018-jerome-robbins
  16. For anyone wondering, after her gold medal in Moscow, Evelina Godunova left Universal ballet and will be joining Berlin next season. In the meantime, she seems to have a bunch of minor guesting gigs http://m.press.lv/post/ya-tantsuyu-luchshe-chem-govoryu-zvezda-latvijskogo-baleta-evelina-godunova/
  17. I know the music for the Ballet was compiled from various Prokofiev pieces. Does anyone know which piece the “whipping scene” came from?
  18. Olga injured her arm. She has an Instagram post where she is running on a treadmill in a sling.
  19. I went to see them last night and, while the piece they presented, Suite Sevilla, isn’t the best of their repertoire, it is still stunning watch due to the size of the ensemble and the colorful costumes Seeing the ensemble turn in unison with their long, flowing, and colorful dresses is a sight to behold i do wish we got to see one of their story based pieces like Medea or the Three Cornered Hat.
  20. And that’s what I am referring to. I interpret it as “I’m dancing this but don’t know the exact dates”
  21. My guess is, they still haven’t decided on who will dance when (although it’s probably safe to say she gets opening night). For the last couple of premieres, they hadnt published the cast lists until a week before.
  22. They’ve released a provisional list of athletes who are allowed to compete at the Olympics. Among Those not on the list are short track speedskater Viktor Ahn, and figure skaters Ksenia Stolbova and Ivan Bukin. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/article/Russia-says-Ahn-among-top-athletes-barred-from-12517189.php Bukin’s domestic partner, btw, is Alena Samarskaya, a former Mikhailovsky soloist who was in that killer Bolshoi Academy Class of 2007 with Ovcharenko, Tsvirko, Zagrebnin, Okuneva, and Marchenkova.
  23. For me, Lantratov was fine as Romeo. I’ve always seen Romeo as a weak character and he actually looked believable as a 16 year old madly in love, not a man who is pushing 30. Like the play, where Mercutio had the best lines, here he had the most interesting choreography and Tsvirko is , if nothing else, an excellent actor. My problem is, I felt the production was bereft of any grandeur and we’re left with something that looked low budget. The costumes were boring, Paris’ wig was absolutely awful, and the ball scene was dull.

    Joy Womack

She was in Atlanta and Houston so maybe she tried out there. She also did an Instagram livestream where she mentioned sending applications to La Scala and the Royal Danish Ballet but not getting any responses. I do wonder if she realized she needed to play nicer. This interview seemed to be an attempt to clear the air in regards to many of the controversies surrounding her.
