  1. You did just fine and I enjoyed reading your post!
  2. Drew, I also like "long reports" and always want to know what's going on with ABT...so please feel free to continue - every day!!
  3. Thanks for the info about the R rating! Yes, I too, have heard all the filthy language that is known to mankind in high school AND during my stint in the Army - only know that I'm a "grown-up" (hee, hee..), I choose to distance myself from it as much as possible!
  4. As was asked above, can any of you that have seen this movie tell me why it is rated R?? (bad language, sex, violence, etc....)
  5. Michael, thanks for the interesting comments - enjoyable reading! Since I've accepted the sad fact that ABT will probably NEVER come to Salt Lake City, I must depend on the kindness of you and others to keep me up to date!
  6. For me, it's a tie between "Sheila Levine is Dead and Living in New York" and/or "Fahrenheit 451". No, wait.....it's for sure "Fahrenheit 451" - they would NEVER be able to burn all those books on stage!! I don't know.....Bejart's company might be able to pull off a little book burning on stage and get away with it (they have certainly tried doing just about everything else on stage!!)
  7. My tastes are sometimes eclectic, but I would cast....... SCARLET- Tanaquil LeClerq RHETT - Edward Villella (on stilts) MELANIE - Eleanor D'Antuono ASHLEY - Erik Bruhn SCARLET'S WHINEY SISTER (remember, Scarlet married HER boyfriend)- Gelsey Kirkland MAMMY - Lynn Seymour (think of her in "Dancers") PRISSY - Heather Watts BELLE WATLING - Gloria Govrin and Karen Von Aroldigen will share the honors! MR. O'HARA - Baryishnikov (an OLD Baryshnikov!) MRS. O'HARA - Melissa Hayden I don't know who would compose the score, I would have my hands full just keeping this cast together!! 8. Thanks glebb, for the very interesting info about Starr (now the next time I watch "The Turning Point", I won't have to wonder what ever happened to her)!!
  9. What ever happened to Starr Danias?? "The Little Ballet" (as mentioned above), is included on the Kulture video "Baryshnikov Dances Sinatra and more..." It's still around and not hard to find. You also get to see Elaine Kudo in "Sinatra Suite" and "Push Comes to Shove"!
  10. Just out of curiosity, who is Ted Bissell? (The only Bissell that comes to my mind is the late Patrick Bissell.) To get back on the "Giselle" track...I'll cast my vote for Gelsey!
  11. Very true Leigh, (about the counting). I never thought of it like that before.....!
  12. Sonora & Alexandra, I just read the last two posts and I couldn't agree with you more. One of my favorite dancers is Alessandra Ferri. While she isn't always so strong in the techinical department, the lyical beauty of her dancing just draws me into whatever she is performing. I don't know how many roles she has had made on her, or even what kind of coaching she has had, but as with Gelsey Kirkland, I'm willing to follow wherever they lead me in the dance. The ability to "touch" the audience is very important IMHO. But I guess that leads us back to beginning....can the ability to "touch" be taught, or is it something a true artist is born with?? Of course, Ferri and Kirkland are just my examples of ballerina perfection. I'm sure you all have your own ideas of perfection and what makes perfection too!
  13. Thanks for all the info - I never realized she had so many roles made on her. (I read in a book a long time ago (where Makarova was being interviewed), that her "big" disapointment in comming to the West was that Western choreographers never used her "talents" the way she hoped they would) Of course, that was her point of view - there are always TWO sides to every story....
  14. Does anyone know how many roles were made on Natalia Makarova? "Other Dances" comes to mind, but I always got the impression that there were not many roles created just for her. She certainly was a great dancer.
