  1. Luckily the version of the Dutch National Ballet is much better than the Grigorovich version. Especially the fourth act is very nice the Van Dantzig version, definitely my favorite part of the ballet. I have been a fan of Smirnova since she graduated from Vaganova, so the news last year she joined the Dutch national ballet, was something i was so happy about. I have been able to have seen her in every big classic (Raymonda, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake) she has danced so far at DNB and she is incredible. 😃
  2. Didn't know this. Would be sad if this was true. She was always one of my favorites
  3. The Dutch National Ballet website states that Sasha will join San Francisco Ballet for a year and it sounds like she will return after this year, since she is not classified as a "leaver" https://www.operaballet.nl/nl/nieuws/2019/07/promoties-en-nieuwe-dansers-bij-nationale-ballet
  4. Thanks guys for all your responses! Since some of you have already visited the baden baden festspielhaus, any advice on the seating?
  5. Hi! I was looking at the tickets for the Mariinsky tour in Baden Baden, but since most cheap tickets are mostly sold out and it would, work wise, not so easy to go there this year, i think i will skip this years events. If you look online the mariinsky goes there every year, so can you logically expect them to return again next year? I also was wondering why the mariinsky goes to baden baden every year, since it is not a really big city? Is there a specific reason for this, just curious?
  6. Hi All! I would like to learn more about dance and it's history. I am searching for some nice books to read during the summer. Already read "Apollo angels" by Jennifer Homans. I enjoyed this, but the modern days chapters were more focused on the American ballet, while i have a preference for Europe, since this is where i am located. I hope you have some nice suggestions. Thank you in advance,
  7. I'am also planning to go to London next summer. Wasn't financial not able to be there in 2013 and 2016, so really looking forward to it. I would love to see the production of Le fille du pharoan, Raymonda and maybe Romeo and Juiliet, the Grigorovich version. I hoped they would posted the programme earlier then Christmas! Long wait before I can start planning this!
  8. Marijn Rademaker released a statement about him ending his dancing career and starting as a assistent ballet master. I am very sorry to inform that I will have to stop my career as a dancer because of a re-occuring knee injury. Of course I am sad and I will miss dancing very much but I have had an amazing dancing career and I look back on it with lots of joy and pride! Also I am very happy to announce that I will be staying with Dutch National Ballet as assistant balletmaster. It will be wonderful to give on my love and knowledge to the generations to come! I will be dancing one last time on the 16th of september at the Nationale Opera en Ballet in Amsterdam. In light of the triple bill `The New Classics’ I will dance the white pas de deux from Lady of the Camellias (John Neumeier) with dear partner Igone de Jongh and will finish with Edward Clug’s ‘Sss…’. http://www.marijnrademaker.com/m/ I am going to his last performance, will report about this last performance. Sad he is leaving, he was a lovely dancer
  9. Which company did Nika Tsvikhtaria and Olga Markova join? I can not find it anywhere
  10. I have seen the broadcast yesterday. Unfortunatelly, the new work of Millepied was a disappointment. Only the pas de deux with Baulac and Marchard was interesting in my opinoin. The stage set was amazing with lamps moving. Opus 19/ The dreamer was lovely with Heymann and Albisson. I always liked Albisson, but she shines in this ballet! Theme and variations was nice aswell. I'm not the biggest fan of Hecquet, so i did not like it as much the dreamer.
  11. I have written an article about the ballet Short Time Together. For this article Gregory Dean was interviewed! https://theballetblogger.wordpress.com/2015/10/04/short-time-together/
  12. I have wrote a article on Jurgita's departure and move to Canada. See the interview: https://theballetblogger.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/interview-jurgita-dronina/
  13. I have wrote an article about the upcoming documentary and the crowdfunding: http://wp.me/p6w4kt-3T
  14. I don't think it will be Tsiskaridze, he is just installed in his new Vaganova position. But you never know ofcourse!
  15. Terrible that this happened to you! I hope you will get better very quickly! i loved your reviews of the white nights!
  16. Buddy Squires, who is an oscar for best documentaire nominee, is making a documentary about Diana Vishneva. The documentaire has own instagram account, where sometimes clips and photos are posted. The account says: "Stay tuned for "Pivotal Pointe": award-winning filmmaker Buddy Squires captures an intimate look at Diana Vishneva's captivating journey" This is the link for the account: https://instagram.com/diana_vishneva_docu/ I am very excited for this, i am curious how Buddy Squires will portait Vishneva!
  17. I love that Anna Nikulina, Igor Tsvirko are promoted! Just like AlexL, I hope he now gets better roles to dance than just the jester. He could be a great basillo, but also swan lake will work great for him! https://theballetblogger.wordpress.com/
  18. Filin did a lot of good things for the bolshoi, like bringing new work as onegin and la dame aux camelias. but i still think bringing Hallberg to the bolshoi was one of his mistakes. Hallberg is ofcourse a good dancer, but in my opinion not the dancer better than other bolshoi dancers in the leading solist rank. It is sad for Filin, because of his sightproblems he will have a hard time finding a new job in ballet. I am curious who will be his successor... Anyone any suggestions?
  19. I love the triple bill of Frank bridge variations, Short time together and Symphony of palms. I have seen two of the three pieces, Short time together and van Manen, and i think this is an amazing combination. Very new modern for the bolshoi!
  20. Marijn Rademaker will join the Dutch National Ballet from the 1st of january 2015 on after being with the Stuttgart Ballet for almost 15 years. He will be the only Dutch principal dancer at the Dutch National Ballet again after Boris de Leeuw. Marijn will continue to guest with the Stuttgart Ballet. Marijn: “I am very exited returning to my country and dance at the Dutch National Ballet. I think it’s a great and versatile company with a great repertoire. After being a regular guest artist with the company I noticed how much I missed Holland and how much I like the group. I came to a point in my life where I feel it is important for me as a person and artist to continue my journey in the Netherlands. I have been at the Stuttgart Ballet for almost 15 years and I love the Stuttgart Ballet so this was not an easy decision for me. Without Reid Anderson and the whole Stuttgart Ballet I wouldn’t be the dancer I am now. They taught me what dance is, what it means to me and how to áctually dance. I am very very grateful for all they have given me and will miss them very much. A part of me will always be a Stuttgart dancer. It makes me happy to take all I have learned to my new company and continue my journey there! Ted Brandsen, director of the Dutch National Ballet: “I’m delighted that Marijn Rademaker is coming to join Dutch National Ballet. He is without doubt the best male classical dancer from the Netherlands in the world today. He has a strong presence and moves the audience with his special combination of sublime classical ballet technique, great intuitive musicality and intense charisma. This combination makes Marijn not only a dream ballet prince, but also a sublime interpreter of the neoclassical and modern ballet repertoire of choreographers like Hans van Manen, George Balanchine and John Neumeier. When Marijn came to Dutch National Ballet a few years ago as a guest artist, there was no indication that he would join our company on a permanent contract. His decision to move to the Netherlands and join Dutch National Ballet is a great asset to the art of dance in the Netherlands and to Dutch National Ballet in particular”. Reid Anderson, director of the Stuttgart Ballet: “Marijn Rademaker danced almost everything in our repertoire and inspired many choreographers who created great roles for him. He is an exceptional dancer, a darling of the public and a beautiful person. We will miss him very much and wish he will continue dancing here as a guest.
