  1. Any recent news on OBT? I remember reading in the San Francisco Cronicle that two from SFB where headed that way. I do wonder about money too! It's amazing to watch the company develop reminds me of the stock market in the late 90's. I last read that Stowell was off to Switerland to set a piece by Mark Morris, does anyone know how that went or is going? San Francisco has been so lucky to have Morris at Zellerbacher Hall, I wonder if he will take a jaunt up to Portland in the near future? How big is the metropolitan portland area?
  2. I dont know if this is the correct place for this post, if there is a better place please move it there. I dont know if anyone has had a chance to see The Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet's version of Swan Lake playing here in town, its playing at the Orpheus through the 11th. If you havent seen it I would recommend it, its a good production with what looks to be an incredable coffer behind it. If anyone has seen it, what did you think? I personaly loved it, the russian classicism tickled me pink. Its enough hearing about russian idyosincracies, but to see a whole company in good stature is pretty neat!
  3. Ballet West, and Millwaukee (pardon spelling if its wrong) Ballet, should be on, I would think. Kirovboy ;) come'on you asked the question, help us out!
  4. I have been impressed with Gonzalo Garcia this season. I know Sterns Grove is a compromisng venue, but I think there is no comparing his maturity in Don Q with that of last summer.
  5. Hey there folks! I read an article about dance in the last few weeks that mentioned an interesting fact. It stated that, in the united states people spend more money getting into the arts than they do to get into the movies. I think this is great and was plesasntly surprised. The only problem was I forgot where I read it... I thought it was in the New Yorker's article on pointe shoes, but have already thown out my copy, and cant seem to find the article online. You may be wondering why I am looking for the information, I would like to use it as part of the basis of a perspective for youth radio. The perspective i am creating, asks the question, "What is it that draws americans to the arts? And where do the preformers onstage come from?." I have interviewed fellow students from my high school, The Interlochen Arts Academy, and addressed issues like, when, what, and why, their art become more than a passion, and such. So, if you remember reading the same information somewhere, please let me know! Thanks!
  6. C.W. Beaumont's books are great! We have, I believe 3 of them, at our school library, I was shocked to find when I checked one out that it had been on the shelf for more than 20 years!!! It says something about how illiterate young dancers can be even to their own art form. So I understand why the stopped publishing them, but I do agree they are great!
  7. Hello, I just wanted to comment on the quality of Octavio Roca, dance critic for the San Fransisco Chronicle’s, work. The Chronicle has an incredible section dedicated towards the arts, and it would not be what it is with out the contributions of Octavio. I became disheartened when I read a letter to the editor chastising Octavio for a critical review of a new modernish ballet company in the San Francisco area. It seemed to me that the author of the letter was asking Octavio to become exactly what the world needs less of, a cheerleader. What sets Octavio apart from the rest are the consistently personalized reviews. The world needs more people who are willing to throw their opinion onto the world, without the fear of what the masses will think. Octavio Roca your opinion is valued. to read recent reviews published by Octavio Roca enter "Octavio Roca" in a searh box at, www.sfgate.com
  8. when i said proportion i was asking if it was too presumptious of me to think that the company would move students up, after talking to a friend at the school, i realize that it looks like everything is pretty stable.
  9. Does anyone have a clue as to why, Julie Admas, Roman, and the Ballet Mistress ( please excuse me for not knowing her name) left SFB. I know that Julie Adams and Roman's roles in the company have been filled by outisders, but do you think the prospect of people being moved from the school to the company is out of proportion? thanks again! 10. Hello- I just wanted to personally thank everyone who contributed to this thread! I just started going to a ballet bording school, so i have been quite busy, please excuse the late thank you! So thank you to everyone who helped me have an awesome time in Copenhagen. I enjoyed the city to its fullest. I was permitted to take professional ballet classes at Danses Hus each morning, there i met some great ballet and modern dancers, some of which i got to enjoy watching dance on stage at tivoli. none of these great classes would have been possible with out Alexander's help. I also would like to thank Arne Villumsen, Martha Gardner, and the folks at Move, for letting me drop in and being so kind. Thanks everyone, Copenhagen is a wonderful cultural mecca!
  11. Alexander- I cant wait to, Thanks so much!

  18. Hello, I am 16 and training to become a pro ballet dancer. I am visiting Copenhagen this summer, Aug 24-31. I am totaly clueless when it comes ballet in foreign countries. I was wondering if anyone could recomend ballet studios in the city, I mean i have heard of the Royal Danish and the Bourneville, but i dont know if they just let random Americans kids walk in and take classes, that seems kind of crazy. so as you can see I dont really know half of what I should know. I also dont speak Danish but i have two years of High German under my belt. Do people speak any german in Denmark? Please reply with any information or help about anything that i should possibly know about! And thank you so much for your time. Maybe I'll meet some of you at ballet class or something?!?!?!?!?!
