  1. I purchased tickets to Le Corsaire for June 8th at ABT, and originally Hallberg was scheduled to perform. But now I see Matvienko listed. Does anyone know why Hallberg was taken off the schedule? He's still performing other parts this season with ABT. Anyway, any recommendations for switching to another performance of Le Corsaire versus sticking with Matvienko? I don't know anything about him. Thanks, Paris.
  2. Here's the book: http://www.amazon.com/Ballet-101-Complete-Learning-Loving/dp/0879103256/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369437806&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=robert+grescovic What is RG's book, pbl? Thanks,
  3. Hi Everyone- I'm going to see Onegin tonight (Monday night) at ABT. I'm wondering if anyone can take a moment to let me know some of the highlights, some of the moments to watch for. And any general thoughts on this ballet. It isn't in RGs book . . . Thank you, Paris.
  4. The R&J tickets have been picked up. Just have the one ticket for Le Corsaire June 8th row E, orchestra center.
  5. This group is such a great resource for those of us just beginning to learn about ballet. Thank you.
  6. OK another step I'd love to know the name for: the little sideways jumps at 1:05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55d-jQyV3dk
  7. The tickets for DQ got snapped up . . . thanks everyone for putting out the word. And note I still have the LC and R&J tickets mentioned in another post.
  8. Hi everyone- We purchased season tickets but have one date we won't be able to make. It's ABT's R&J with Kent and Bolle June 15th 8pm. Our tickets are Orchestra row G in the center. At cost, which is $425 for all four tickets plus $6 for me to ship them to you. We also have one ticket to Le Corsaire (Murphy, Hallberg) on June 8th at 8pm, row E, orchestra center. Just the one ticket on its own. At cost, which would be $120 plus $5 booking plus $6 shipping. Best, Paris.
  9. The tickets cost $120 each plus $5 booking fee plus $6 for me to ship them. I will most likely have two tickets, will know for sure this weekend.
  10. I have three tickets to the May 25th Don Quixote with Osipova and Vasiliev ABT at the Met. Orchestra row F. I have put out feelers to some friends, they don't know if they can make it yet, and I have to make a decision in the next couple of days about getting an exchange versus selling these at cost to someone interested here if my friends don't want them. Let me know if you are interested and I should know for sure in the next day or two whether I have three, or just two, or whether my friends will want them.
  11. Hi everyone- I'm quite new to this site, and want to make sure I respect the rules. Is there some forum in which it is acceptable to swap videos? How about swapping tickets? Thanks for your guidance.
  12. If I can make it to NYC for one day to see YAGP, which day should I go? Any other guidance on how best to enjoy YAGP?
  13. Hi Everyone- I'm aware of EmergingPictures, but wonder if there are other organizations bringing live ballet performances to cinemas. Thanks for any pointers.
  14. Dear MRR- Thank you for such evocative comments. I would love to hear your comments on Osipova, Herrera, Cojocaru, Hallberg and (not visiting ABT) Marienela Nunez. It's wonderful for someone newly appreciating all this to see these finer points articulated.
  15. Thank you everyone - very useful. Making our decisions now . . .
  16. Drew and everyone else - thank you for the advice! Paris.
  17. Hi Everyone, I am planning out our first subscription to ABT for 2013, and wanted some help picking performances according to the principals. I am very new to ballet, but almost embarrassingly enthusiastic, and have been watching my share of DVDs and youtube videos and old VHS tapes. It does seem that my tastes are far more for the lyrical / aerial, and less for terre a terre (please excuse lack of accents throughout). From the videos I've watched, Makarova has given me the biggest ballet highs, but I've enjoyed a wide variety of styles all the same. I've been to performances of Osipova, Herrera, Murphy, Cojocaru, Kent already. But looking for quick pointers for who else I might enjoy in the few performances I'm able to catch this coming year. (interested in comments on Semionova, Reyes, Vorvorenko, Vishneva, Boylston, Part, Seo). And of course if any particular performance for 2013 at the met seems like a "must see" please let me know. Thanks everyone, Paris.
  18. And one more question: What are the names of the steps at 10:04, 10:11, and the little jumps at 10:20? If these are OK questions to ask here, and this is the right place to ask them, let me know, I have many more questions like this . . . thank you.
  19. Next video link question. What is the name of the step/leap Angel Corella does at 1:28? Thank you . . . .
  20. Hi everyone, I saw there is an existing thread which begins with step names and then explains them. I have a different problem. I am entirely new to ballet. I began watching ballet DVDs around Christmas when I purchased Baryshnikov's Nutcracker for my four year-old, and together we have now watched scores of performances on DVD and have gone to a few performances together too. I've read a few books, but having never trained in ballet, sometimes the text descriptions don't help me make the connection. The ABT glossary/dictionary site is useful, but incomplete and some of the videos and explanations don't make sense to me yet. All of which is a windup to asking about some steps. Here's my first question: Paloma Herrera in Le Corsaire 1999: at 7:40 she dances a small circle - what is the name of the step? If it's OK with everyone, I will post some more questions with video links on this thread. Best,Paris.
  21. Hi Everyone, I only began watching, and loving, ballet in the past year. It all began with buying DVDs for my little girl to watch, and now we've seen some live performances together. We went together to see Cojocaru in Giselle with ABT last year, and had a wonderful time. I'm looking now at buying tickets for ABT at Lincoln Center for 2013, and wanted to hear some opinions on which seats are best for ballet, on a moderate budget. Is it better to watch from the orchestra or from the balcony? Better to be in the center, or are there advantages to viewing from the side? While you're at it, if you have any tips on performances that we absolutely must catch with ABT in 2013 in New York, please share. Best, Paris.
  22. So Makarova and Baryshnikov were in a relationship at one time?
