  1. Hey there, I have looked all over for a video i had as a young girl that got recorded over. It was a series of kirov pieces that included Kolpekova as Reymonda(sp?), Ulanova in something and a Grand Pas Classique danced by someone? As you can see my memory is fuzzy. there were several other peices in the movie and i believe it may have been two or more videos. Again I was about 11 last time I saw them. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks!
  2. I too am very interested in getting a copy. please let me know. PM me or whatever. i will also email you. Thanks, Rachel :sweating:
  3. Hi All, So I was watching Cynthia Harvy in Don Q , and noticed somthing that was to me, pecular (sp?). In the movie/video she seemed to be wearing split soled pointe shoes before i even knew they existed. could it be a 3/4 skived outer sole, or was it actually split? Anyone else notice this? Also, i realized that I know very little about her career. She is fun to watch, a real spitfire whom i am sure was beautiful in other classical roles. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Rachel
  4. Henry Danton curently lives and teaches in hattiesburg mississippi. I have his address and phone number if you would like it. hope this helps. if you already know that... oops.
  5. As far as i know, she is still a soloist. If she has been promoted to principal, congratulations to Ms. Wiles! Rachel
  6. Hi all! Was wanting to know if anyone has a comment about the up and comming Michele Wiles? I find her classicism so distinct that she is ushering in a new age of tecnique, or perhaps should i say re-ushering. Anyway, her pure, strong technique being her strong point can come across as cold, but I think her glorious. Anyone think she will be principal at ABT soon? Rachel
  7. I was at KAB for a time when she was there, back in 98. I had a great admiration for her even then. I don't think she could have changed that much in that length of time, even though it could be possible. Rachel
  8. There is another dancer in the corps at ABT. Maria bystrovia was/is a very talanted dancer that has not been showcased that much at ABT. I wonder Why? She, in my opinion has a strong tech. and a very developed stage presence. Anyone seen her lately? Rachel
  9. Hi All, Thisarticle is very disturbin in my opinion. I understand te need for 'recreatonal training' but going about that is very touchy business. There isa school in my area that is the most profitable school around. Most ofthe dancers thre are recreational. They have a jazz team that is very good, mainly because the teacher requires at least 2 ballet classes a week. In this same school, several students have attended SI and year round programs at kirov academy, SAB, Nutmeg, VSA, Harid and so on. This school really is the best of both worlds. Another school in he area offeres incredible technique and produced many good dancers, but ent out of business because the teacher refused to recognize the needs of the children in her classes. Here is an example of needs going beforequility. No matter how good the teaching, if the teacher tears down her students the parents will eventually step up. There is no easy answer to this question. The focus of a studio need to be to take care of the students in the most professional manner possible. A child can have 'fun' in a good ballet school if the teacher can relate to a studens need. But the needs of a student should not undermine good training. Good training does not need to bankrupt a teacher. And so th world goes round!
  10. It is so wonderful to see that picture of Danton. I studied with him and he became not only a mentor, but a second grandfather to me. Pictures of him are so hard to come by. Thank you!
  11. ok, so this is probably a strange question, but could anyone tell me any information about charles pregger. we used to know each other, but lost touch about 5 years ago. any information would be welcomed. thanks, an old friend:)
  12. for those of us without such a wonderful resource on hand, where can you find vidoes of this sort. Especially of Kirkland. i have an endearing fondness of her for personal reasons. Any info would be appreciated
  13. i would hope that maria bystrova get more attention at ABT. She is a great talent that i think could be a truly great artist. Kind of specific and personal, but i would love to see it happen.
  14. i don't know if anyone has ead a book called "An Unmaking of a Dancer" but i loved it. i don't really know why either, as it is not by a famous dancer, just a dancer who was almost good enough but found she didn't want it that much. she later went and danced in France. Fascinating. I loved Kirkland's books, both of them. i know she gets a lot of heat about what she wrote, but i think she was writing how she felt, right or wrong, good or bad. i don't agree with much of what she says, but i don't thnk that was the point. i figure that by writing what she did, it helped her heal a little more. she is an incredible artist whom i respect for her efforts
  15. Hi there, I have a question that i don't know whee to post, also i don't even know if it is appropriate. I have been wondering about this for sometime now. About a year ago, in people magazine there was an article about a mother suing SFB school for denying her daughter into their school because she was overweight. I was wondering if anyone knowif this was resolved. I know that weight issues are not discussed, but this really has more to do with the integrity of oneof the best schools in the country. I think it is sad that this occured at all, and if the mother was a wise dance teacher, as she claimed, she should have had an idea of this before hand. Anyway, would like to know if anyone knows anything. ~Rachel~
  16. Hi there! Ok, i am no a dance parent, but being a former dancer and still young, i would like to add my two cents. Anyway, i am very familiar with these recital that you all are speaking of. I attended a small classical ballet school which, surprisingly gaveextremly good technique. I attended several major schools and was accepte into a few companies. Anyway, we put on performances of classics based on the ability f the students outr teachers ha at the time. Our area has a LARGE group of rich momies that want to see their children in dance and would continually ask me to come to their children's rcitals. I didn't know whatto say because i experienced the same things you all did. But th parents were extremely delighted in their children. I guess that if the parents are accepting of the way their dane schools are run, then that is all that matters. It i when those same students attended SI auditions with me that the message was clear. Many timesi saw them leave in tears and their parents looking bewildered. It is sad, but with no certification requireed to open a dance school it is unlikely to change. That to me would be a good solution, to qualify teachers in some manner or another. But that brings up a totally different area all togeter. Sorry ths is somewhat disjointed and the spelling is pretty bad, but this is my opinion. Thnks for reading!!! ~Rachel~
  17. Hi there! In my opinin, ABT NYCB Washington ballet Boston Ballet Houston Ballet these are my top 5 based on quality of dancers as well as new coreography which keeps ballet alive. I think that Miami is up an comming, Atlanta has always been strong and Tulsa should not be forgotten. I have never seen PNB, but by reviews, they seem to be in the top 5. ~Rachel~ :)
