Box office opened today but there are no cast listings. Does anyone know if and when those will be posted? Not that the cast listed will still be the same dancers in October as announced in July or August! I am hesitant to buy tickets until I know who is expected to dance.

It last year is anything to go by, it was announced at the end of August.   Like you, I'm also hesitant to buy tickets until casting is out.

  2. I just remembered buying tickets for a Broadway musical which closed before my performance date.  Because I bought the tickets in person at the Box Office, I was not notified that my performance was cancelled.

So I'm guessing this is pretty much the same situation with SPAC. I wonder if there is a way to avoid this by theaters asking for voluntary e-mail addresses, as long as no one is forced to comply.   It sure would have come in handy.  I'd have been very upset if I'd made a long trip in the heat to a performance which had already been cancelled.

All tickets for SPAC are sold by them, not by NYCB.  NYCB's website irects you to SPAC to buy tickets.  The responsibility is their's.

I totally agree that the venue who sold the tickets is responsible.

I wonder if the fact that people bought their tickets through SPAC rather than directly from NYCB caused some issues with getting immediate messages out to ticket-holders.

That's what I'm thinking.  NYCB is always on top of things at the Koch since they sold the tickets.

I would think the venue (SPAC) would be responsible for notifying ticket holders.   That being said, I wonder how many e-mail addresses SPAC had for ticket buyers.    If tickets are bought online they should have e-mail addresses.  But if someone buys in person at the box office, are they asked for this information?    I've never been asked for contact information when purchasing tickets in person at any theater box office.

No dancer will please everyone, but there were a lot of upset people in NYC when Sylve moved to SFB.

Agreed.  I was one of those people upset by her move to SFB.

I was very excited about seeing Sylve today, but I just donated my today's tickets back to the Joyce.  This heat and very hot subway platforms are just too unbearable to make it worthwile.

Maria got injured at the end of spring season. Tiler Peck was out all of spring season with an injury.

For what it's worth, Maria is still listed for the Ballet Festival at the Joyce next month.    Fingers crossed that both dancers will be back dancing soon.

  6. FPF - Thank you so much for sharing your review with us!   I've only been to SPAC once, and it wasn't nearly as hot as you're experiencing right now.  I don't know how the dancers manage to hold it together in this heat, but it sounds like there were still some outstanding performances.  Thanks again!

Obviously the A.D. makes the decisions about who is dancing for the company. If for some reason a dancer looked particularly 'displeasing' to the audience there would probably be some bad press, but the A.D. is still likely to notice the issue long before the audience does - and do something about it.

    I agree

ABT has performed Tchai Pas during spring seasons at the Met as well. Not sure if Vishneva ever danced it there though.

Yes, that makes sense.  My guess is that they danced together at the MET.  My brain was working on fall seasons....

One of the original Billy Elliots. No wonder, so much stage charisma. This guy gobbles up the stage with his presence.

Yes, I loved Redhead!   Aside from gobbling up the stage with his presence, he gobbles it up with his jumps.  I literally thought he was going to run out of stage a few times.

I also enjoyed Marcin Kupinski as James, as well as his second act divertissements (The playbill said he's originally from Poland).

(And yet I have very special memories of a Vishneva/ Corella Tchaicovsky Pas that just can't be matched by the current squad.)

Are you sure that it wasn't Reyes/Corella?  Or another possibility Herrera?  Not that I doubt your memories, but I don't remember Vishneva dancing at any of ABT's Fall seasons.  But someone please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.  Guess I could start going through my playbills but it's not worth it.....

The jury is still out. We haven't seen her dance. . . .

But Lopez did!  That's good enough for me!  Quote from CNN article link above- "I don't want to say she got her talent back, because I don't think she ever lost it," Lopez said.

    MCB isn't the jury?

I'm with Josette on this one.

The paying audience is the jury IMO.

I can't wait to see this beautiful ballerina dance again.

  12. Thanks for posting canbelto.  I always enjoyed Faye's dancing, and am so pleased to read her reviews.  I agree with everyone that it was excellently written and very insightful.  I found it particularly interesting to be "seeing" ABT's ballets through the eyes of a City Ballet dancer.

  13. So happy for Bell and Ahn.  I was secretly hoping that Bell would be promoted directly to principal.  Soloist is a time to prove yourself worthy of principal roles, and he has already more than done that.  With that in mind, perhaps he'll just have to wait six months for principal?  Anyway...just thinking out loud.

For me the big news of the week of Swan Lake was Shevchenko and Aran Bell. Both are exquisite artists. How is it even possible that the young Mr. Bell is so marvelously polished at age 20?

I agree.  He is quite amazing for his age.  He was gorgeous as Romeo last year, and he just keeps getting better.  Looking forward to his Sleeping Beauty.

As far as Shevchenko, Wow!   And to think,  we could have been seeing these gorgeous performances with her instead of a her being wasted as a flower girl year after year....

I also loved Boylston/Simkin's SL, and was so happy to see him back on the stage!
