  1. I enjoyed it a lot. Thankfully Osipova was much better in this than Swan Lake.
  2. Just got back from a screening. The first act wasn't my favorite and Campbell was the best part about it. I love Osipova but I didn't enjoy her second act Odette as much as some. However, I thought she projected the image well and her movements were sublime. Osipova's black swan however was like a decadent chocolate dessert. She's better at Odile than Odette. I love the staging for act 3 except for that dark backdrop. The mocking that was done by Rothbart and his minions at the end was a good bit of theatrics and made the ending one memorable. Act 4 was moving and the corpse was incredible.
  3. I just got back from seeing this. I'm still new to watching ballet and I'm not as familiar with Giselle as some other ballet fans but this performance moved me more than I expected it to. It made my husband and I cry and I take that as a good sign. Osipova and Acosta were spectacular and I felt like he and Osipova played beautifully off each other and his mime/acting was superb. I was very, very pleased and felt like it was well worth the time. I'm looking forward to more discussions about this performance. If a DVD is going to be released does anyone know how long it will be and where would I look for it?
  4. Fathom Events is showing Swan Lake live from the Mariinsky Theater on June 6th in cinemas across America. There will be a 2-D showing as well as a 3-D showing. James Cameron will be in charge of the 3-D effects. Pointe Magazine Article and you can purchase tickets here.

    Hello!

Hey guys! I lurked this forum for the longest. This is a great forum and there's lots of good information here. Thanks. I'm new to discovering ballet. Sadly my city doesn't offer much in the way of major ballet productions but our small theater district is being revitalized so, here's hoping! My local universities offer productions from time to time and Youtube has a good number of ballets. And reading about ballet is just as fun as watching it. Well, that's it for now. I'm sure I'll be in the "Discovering The Art" forum often enough.
