    Olga Smirnova

There are a couple videos up on YouTube - her Odile variation and the coda. I'm waiting eagerly for more! She looks beautiful, I'm sure she must have been nervous but I myself think she did an absolutely stunning job, not to mention the variation is a different version than the one she's already performed at Bolshoi. Chudin is, of course, perfect as always.
  2. Hi everyone, Since the websites aren't really planned that far in advance, does anyone know whether or not Mariinsky, Bolshoi, Mikhailovsky and Stanislavsky theatres are holding performances in June? Or do they have the month off? I may be making a trip to Russia around that time and, although I know the Vaganova Academy will be having their graduation performance near the end of June (if I'm not mistaken), I was interested in whether or not other theatres will still be working at that time. I would give anything to watch Olga Smirnova in Moscow and Anastasia Kolegova/Olesya Novikova in Petersburg...

Well I sure do wish that I lived in or near Moscow. I wonder what her next debut in a full length ballet will be! I love being able to follow these up and coming stars; the people who upload her videos to YouTube are my heroes.

I have also heard that she is controversial; someone on YouTube has uploaded the full 'La Fille du Pharaon' with Smirnova as Aspicia and Semyon Chudin, a wonderful dancer, as Taor. I think their partnership is a very good one. I enjoy her Aspicia and I think it was a very strong debut and that she will be principal ballerina material very very soon, if she isn't already.

I've seen that video of Smirnova's character exam 'mazurka' before. She is amazing and barre is beautiful too! I really enjoy character work, especially Vaganova's, since they really know how it's done.

At first I was a bit disappointed that she did not go to Mariinsky because I love so many of the dancers there, then I came to and realized that it was a much better decision for her to move to the Bolshoi. She is doing so well and now that Obraztsova is also there, and Kristina Shapran at Stanislavsky, she gives me a reason to make a visit to Moscow... I've been searching for videos of her Pharaoh's Daughter debut but no success so far.

Ah, my bad. The pictures i found were from a rehearsal I think... so maybe she has not debuted yet, maybe that is on the 14th. Anyways, if we could all keep our eyes open maybe we can find the video as soon as it comes out. If there is to be one, that is...

Hello everyone! I didn't really do my research so I'm not 100% sure if this is the first topic completely dedicated to Olga Smirnova, extremely talented 2011 Vaganova grad of Kovaleva's class who is now first soloist at Bolshoi Theatre. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows about videos of her debut in 'La Fille du Pharaon', or 'The Pharaoh's Daughter' at Bolshoi Theatre recently; I have found pictures but I'm dying to see a video. I also want to hear other people's opinions on Smirnova and how quickly you all think she will reach principal status. She is personally one of my favourite ballerinas and for me is definitely a rising star of the Russian ballet, alongside fellow classmate Kristina Shapran who dances as a soloist at Stanislavsky Ballet.
  9. Yes I know all about Lebedev and Smirnova as I have been watching them for a couple years now. Viktor was great, I saw him in the pas de trois from act 1. His tours were gorgeous, soft plie, etc... really a joy to watch. Also performing the pas de trois was recent Vaganova graduate Valeria Zapasnikova (I also believe Ekaterina Krasyuk graduated in 2009 or something, from Vaganova, she was the other pas de trois girl). Zapasnikova stood out from the other big swans and princesses with her beautiful port de bras, footwork and musicality. Sarafanov and Bondareva were excellent! Olga Smirnova is one of my favourite dancers right now, I love all the roles she is getting and I'm dying to see her live, maybe one day...
  10. Yes! I had read earlier that Borchenko would also tour but then I saw that Bondareva was doing every evening show, and Irina Kosheleva just today's matinee... I wonder if Borchenko was injured!
  11. I'm sorry to get back to you so late Helene! I didn't see any casting online but now that I have the program I can tell you (sorry again for not seeing this earlier, I was away from a computer etc for a few days.) : June 13th: Prince Siegfried: Leonid Sarafanov ; Odette/Odile: Oksana Bondareva; Pas de trois: Ekaterina Krasyuk, Viktor Lebedev and Valeria Zapasnikova; Jester: Denis Tolmachov; Big swans: Valeria Zapasnikova, Irina Kosheleva, Astkhik Ogannesian. Cygnets: Ekaterina Khomenko, Anna Kuligina, Veronika Ignatyeva and Marina Nikolayeva. That was the performance I saw and it was really really wonderful, and after getting to meet Leonid Sarafanov backstage afterwards I can say he is a very kind person... really good English as well. It was a truly heavenly experience for me as he is my favourite dancer! Oksana Bondareva will dance Odette/Odile for every evening performance (13th, 14th, 15th and 16th) and Irina Kosheleva will dance O/O for the June 16th matinee. Viktor Lebedev also performed Prince Siegfried on June 14th, June 15th and June 16th matinee with Sarafanov only dancing again on June 16th evening.
  12. Yes I would love to be included and also give my opinions/talk about the Vaganova school and Mariinsky company. I also love Stuttgart Ballet (Friedemann Vogel is one of my favourite dancers) and Bolshoi Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin etc. Lucia Lacarra is magnificent at Bayerisches Staatsballett as well.
  13. I have recently purchased tickets to the Mikhailovsky Ballet's 'Swan Lake' in Vancouver on June 13th - starring Leonid Sarafanov and I'm not sure who as Odette/Odile. I'm hoping Borchenko or maybe Novikova but I'm sure Novikova will be busy at Mariinsky during that time. I keep dreaming and hoping it's Novikova though - recent(ish) videos of her Swan Lake on YouTube from balletarchiv show a very promising Odette/Odile and a promising actress in Novikova as well. Is anyone else attending this performance/any date in this run of shows?
  14. Hi everyone! I'm Zachary (Zach) and I just registered a few days ago and I'm finally posting here. I am an avid follower of all the 'Vaganova Ballet Academy' talk on this website because they are my favourite school and Mariinsky is my favourite company. I hope to see lots of talk about them on this forum!
