  1. With all the unexpected injuries, i think ABT is trying to make sure that they keep as many of the announced castings the same even if it means splitting up the ballet couples. I personally think that the current casting for Giselle makes sense as Dvorovenko/Hallberg doesn't seem to make sense/work for me Bur seriously, we're in week 2 of the Met season and the castings are falling apart right and left...
  2. WOW! ABT's season is turning into a superstar showcase. Really sad to hear that Herman's still out with injury though BUT this means that June 11 and 14's Bright Stream will have Vasiliev, Osipova, AND Simkin...
  3. slightly random thought, but I have to ask...is Basilio actually a part of Marcelo's repertoire or not? It's listed in his ABT bio, but i don't remember him ever performing it...correct me if i'm wrong please! also, since Sascha Radetsky has been replaced in both of his performances this week, does anyone know if he actually is injured/the nature of his injury? He's a pretty big part of the repertory program...
  4. "My dream." Makes it all the sadder that he isn't dancing with ABT now. I won't lie, there are still days when I think "what if"...It's great to see that he's returned to ballet, but it's a pity that his fans her in the States (and he has quite a few!) won't get a chance to see him dance. Danny started at ABT the same year at David Hallberg, it really does make you wonder what could have been had he stayed with the company especially since he once expressed having dreams of having a lifelong career at ABT extending past his dancing days to possibly return as AD...
  5. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Seminova and Hallberg Don Q. I know both dancers are very good in their roles, but at the same time, Don Q is NOT the ballet I thought they would be cast in together. I'm really intrigued by this pairing for this particular ballet, and cannot wait to hear how it goes. Thanks for your detailed account of Kajiya/Simkin by the way!
  6. According to Point Magazine's FB page, she said yes. They've also posted an incredibly cute photo of them...Gillian's face says it all
  7. Actually his FB says October 2011...but regardless it's Norway and NOT the US (much less ABT) here's an article that was tweeted and posted by Movmnt Magazine http://www.gaysir.no/artikkel.cfm?CID=14660 - it's in Norwegian, which I can't read and it doesn't seem like anyone has translated it yet.
  8. so happy to hear that all the Don Q's this week so far have been great. Glad to hear the Yuriko and Daniil's debuts were as expected and it's quite promising to hear that Daniil's partnering has improved. I definitely wish I could have been there tonight for Reyes and Sarabia. I'm personally not the biggest fan of Reyes as she just hasn't impressed me, but I've always wondered what would happend if she was in the right role at the right time with the right partner, and it seems as though tonight was it! regarding the Gala, I'm really sad to hear that Michelle's plateau has continued...a part of me suspects that her promotion may have happened too quickly and was more of a result of a need rather than completely based on merit...since then, I've really wondered if ABT was the right company for her, and perhaps that is contributing to her struggles as well.
  9. In regards to Corella, he was definitely "frozen out" of the schedule last year. My understanding is that in the 2009 MET season, Corella was overcommitted (I remember reading about him flying to NY for an ABT performance only to hop on a plane to perform with his company the next night). Then in the 2010 MET season, he tried to cut down his commitments with his company so he could be in NYC for ABT, but McKenzie did not put him in the schedule. As for this season, Corella's company has been doing a lot of big tours and performances to up their presence (they are currently in WA state). I suspect that Corella may have put his company first his year as tour planning is done at least a year in advance, and he's made himself available for the MET season the best he could (at least Corella Ballet was in NYC in the fall). That being said, I hope that starting next season, ABT and Corella work out a better balance especially since as many others have mentioned, he's needed in the rotation. Back to Stiefel, I definitely think that ABT is maintaining a relationship with him b/c of Gillian. That being said, I can't think of a dancer who's been flakier, for various reasons for difference commitments, in the past 5 years than Stiefel (injuries I can understand, although Ethan seems to be much more prone to them than others - perhaps due to how little time he has to actually spend dancing/rehearsing). His new relationship with New Zealand certainly complicates things as Gillian is slated to be a guest artist quite a bit, AND it seems like Ethan has managed to throw a wrench into the picture too...I know we shouldn't be focusing on dancers' personal lives on this board, but seeing as they sometimes affect their professional live...he did (finally) propose to Gillian on Monday night at the Gala (link here)...which means that it appears as though Gillian and Ethan will really have to treated as "one unit" now. I'm intrigued to see how long Ethan commits to New Zealand and what Gillian chooses to do. Losing either principal on a more permanent basis will be detrimental for ABT, especially Gillian, and I'd hate to see it come to that.
