Were I in charge of producing this show, I would end each ep with 3-5 min of solid dance, either a solid performance piece or a run-thru or a rehearsal or something that has a continuous performance element to it. I would then build the ep to lead up to that and hope to intersperse class and rehearsal bits throughout, perhaps even leading with it. Within that constraint, I would pepper the personality and the drama if spice were needed. In ep 2, it really would ahve been nice to have had more of Sergio and the "boys" trying to keep up, for instance. Ah well, you can't have everything! Thanks for still posting the episodes!! I definitely agree with your post and it's true you can't have everything, I am thankful because as far as reality tv goes I prefer this to anything. They have actual talent and work hard and that is always fun to watch. I feel bad for Sergio to go all that way to NZ and get injured... and for Tonia (hoping I am not messing up the names) when it comes to Aurora. However it was nice to se Gillian in the episode a little bit, coaching and all that!

If possible, it would be great! If it is not possible could you tell us who got cast in SB as what? I am curious As in your first post, the only thing I wish is they would show more of the dancing... I imagine this season is even better without the Katie/Michael thing and the changes coming because of Ethan.

As Barbara said I am hooked too (and also like her wonder what Katie is doing now, if she is dancing anywhere else), much more fun and better than the reality shows they have on tv here... this is priceless I had really wanted to check it out for a long time!! I've been wanting to see this show since s1!! Thanks for the videos!!! I even tried to watch it streaming on the site a while back but it said it was only available to people in NZ (I am in Puerto Rico). I wish we had shows like this here

Nice thread, and wonderful clips that I do agree stand the test of time. I'm a lurker because I generally read this forum to learn from people who know far more than I do. I just wanted to add Alla Sizova in here, pardon me if anyone disagrees, personally I would love to see someone like her (and others posted in this thread) on stage today. I also think the way she jumps is superior in quality of the movement to many ballerinas we see now a days (of course there are exceptions)... so light and so buoyant. With Soloviev With Nureyev

I'm generally a lurker but I must post to admit I have been keeping track of this show on YT... makes me happy to see Evgenia getting a perfect score I wish I understood Russian... do they eliminate people or is it that the city with the team of the highest scores wins? I was thinking maybe it was a St. Petersburg v. Moscow thing but I don't understand anything so I could be totally wrong. I try to figure things out by reading comments and using google translator but obviously that isn't going so well...

I know this is an old thread, I hope it is not against the rules to post in it. I was just wondering if there was a way to view this still? I saw clips on youtube and went on a google search and ended up here though the link is expired it seems. Guess I missed a wonderful thing because the clips of the shades act with Tereshkina and Sarafanov on youtube are amazing...

Just to say that that varies. The ones I know didn't know about the double because they didn't even care. I'd say that I agree that 'many people aren't that easily fooled', but that it's not easy to underestimate the 'general public' on many things, as this one--although not fooling even the 'general public' on all things. Most weren't fooled by what was the real reason for making such a big deal about Clinton/Lewinsky, for example, and the political class just went on pontificating anyway. In fact, I was myself temporarily somewhat fooled before I found out that the general public wasn't! Such is the power of hype when used with great ambition and determination. I guess since I have danced ballet and love watching it, I take it for granted that no one would believe someone new to dance could do such things (and the things she did do, she lacked the real grace of a true professional dancer). I would hope they understood she trained hours a day for a year or whatever to be believable (barely, with the aid of effects and camera work) as a dancer for her character, and not that she ended up doing the hard technical parts herself. There will always be some people that believe it but I think (hope?) they are not the majority. I am honestly still baffled this all became a controversy, but I guess that is just me being willfully naive.

For me ballerinas are graceful inside and out, and have the strength to go on for what they love despite possibly being unnoticed (like say, many incredibly talented dancers that languish in a corps). Does ballet deserve more recognition? Yes. Does Sarah Lane? Sure, but it still comes off like sour grapes which is unbecoming. If she had played her cards differently, who knows what other opportunities she would have had. Also, I have many non-ballet loving friends who 'get' that Black Swan is a movie about a girl with mental problems that happens to dance ballet, rather than a realistic movie about ballet. They also understand a double was used for the most difficult sections... I just feel it's easy to underestimate the 'general public' but many people aren't that easily fooled. My .02 anyway...

Beautiful, just saw the rehearsal clip online, I am so excited. I hope clips of her performance make their way to the internet for those of us who won't ever be lucky enough to see someone like Obraztsova perform for real!!
