I saw "Birdman" and came away totally confused and not much of a fan. Googled it, saw it again with the plot now understandable, and found a sensational movie! Ya' gotta love Google.

I got a full refund for the cancelled ballet. Called SCFTA and was told I could hold the money in my account or have a full refund. When I asked for the refund I was given options on how the money could be refunded, and I had no trouble having it crdited to my credit card account.

I'm with ksk04. Just got back from the Sat. night performance and I'm thunderstruck. We don't get a chance to see these dancers, also Veshneva when she came a while back, so we go to these performance looking forward to seeing their classical abilities and we get this instead.

Saw Les Ballets de Monte Carlo's Swan Lake Saturday night. (Left my program there so I don't know much about who I saw.) For me, the beginning 20 minutes or so were boring and they were losing me. Then, THEN, Maude Sobourin came on as Her Majesty of the Night (sort of a Rothbart; a role usually danced by Maillot's wife) with her two Archangels (I think that's what they were called). This was an amazing piece of choreography and dancing. Three evil, slithering, sexy bodies menacelingly intertwining and interlocking with each other as they danced, Her Magesty with a smile on her face as she enjoyed the javoc she was creating. To me they were so mesmerizing that I couldn't take my eyes off of Sobourin for the rest of the ballet. From then on I enjoyed the ballet. The choreography is classican but slightly contemporary and it works. The corps was ditzy and clever with unusual unswany moves. The pas de deux between the prince and the white swan was wonderful, and so different from what one is used to: not the emotional performance by Odette as tells her story, but two young people who are discovering that they're in love, full of glee and surprise. Cut out those first 20 minutes and you've got something!

Tonight (Friday, March 8) I attended Les Ballets de Monte Carlo in Costa Mesa and forgot to bring home a cast list (actually forgot to bring home the whole program). Does anyone have one for tonight that they can post or mail to me? If you need an email or snail mail address let me know. Perhaps the cast is listed somewhere online? What I want to know most is: who danced the part of the "female Rothbart" (don't have my program; don't know the name)? It was not Maillot's wife, and who ever she was was sensational! Thanks in advance.

Saw Liliom twice at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Didn't care much for it the first time so I went home and read everything I could find about it online. Loved it the second time! Anyone else see it?

I got this for Christmas. It's excellent. But there are always minor quibbles (I'm comparing it to the telecast in the 80's, which I taped). My major gripe is the photography; close ups, "dramatic" angles, close ups. Jeez! It really detracts from the dancing and the story; I read that the scenes at the table were choreographes so that every face could be seen and some of that was lost. The dancing was great tho I thought the mother could have looked older, and the girl in the brothal could have been just a tad more reluctant. All of these are minor quibbles; I highly recomment the DVD..

Some of the best ballet I've ever seen: Royal Ballet's "Onegin" with Nunez and Soares, and then Royal Ballet's "Monotones II" ... truly a rare treat. One of the most disappointing: Vishneva's appearance at Orange County Performing Arts Center in Nov. She performed a somewhat modern ballet program rather than showing us her magnificent classical prowess.

I wonder if this is a copy of the Joffrey performance telecast many years ago? It featuring Philip Jerry as Death, Beatriz Rodriguez, Gary Chryst and others.

Fabulous. Wonderful to see the opera house in Bucharest again; it has the most amazing series of historial frescos on the walls that encircles the audience.

No one has mentioned Eifman since 2009. His "Rodin" is at Orange County Performing Arts Center. Anyone seen it? Any comments?

Within the Golden Hour will always be special to me. I have two subscriptions to Orange County Performing Arts Center's' dance series, one in my cheap seat (3rd tier) and later in the best seats in the house (1st Tier); I saw WtheGH in my cheap seats and fell in love; I could hardly believe what I had seen and couldn't wait for the Sat. performance and my terrific seats. On Sat. my city was threatened by a brush fire and I simply could not bear to leave my home. Having missed the 2nd performance of WthGR I promised myself I'd go anywhere in the world to see that second performance. I was hoping for Paris, maybe London; I got San Francisco, 400 miles from me. I did see it again and it was everything I had remembered and more.

I had pretty much the same experience. Bought my tickets online but the sale never went through. I kept trying to get back to the online ticket page but I wasn't allowed. Meanwhile I was on the phone (got through in 15 minutes, waaaaaaited for an ticket agent for another 30 minutes, from California yet). The agent saw that my sale transaction online was there but the sale hadn't gone through. After talking with her supervisor she was able to release those tickets and sell them to me on the phone. All in all it took an hour. California is right; it was a disaster over there. BUT I GOT MY TICKETS!!!

Yes, does anyone know anything about it (The Winter's Tale)? Classical? Modern?
