sandik
We've been talking a lot about grammar and vocabulary over in the thread about the Trocks, so I thought I'd mention a book here that I've been enjoying -- Word by Word by Kory Stamper. She works for Webster as a writer and editor of dictionary entries, and her descriptions of the process and the kinds of people drawn to this work are vivid and unusual. (and look, it's a link to the Amazon listing -- you could do that thing) Link to comment
kbarber
While we're on the topic, can I also recommend The Word Detective by John Simpson, retired editor-in-chief of the Oxford English Dictionary. (full disclosure: John Simpson trained me when I worked as a lexicographer for Oxford University Press.) Kory's book is great, and I hear she is working on a second one. Link to comment

nanushka
Stamper's book has been on my mental list for awhile; thanks for the reminder, sandik. And thanks for the Simpson rec as well, kbarber. Both sound good to me. Edited February 8, 2018 by nanushka Link to comment
