What a shame that the Petipa "International Stars" gala & Petipa 3ple bill (Ratmansky/Burlaka/Vikharev recons) won't be "cinemascast." However, that doesn't mean that they won't be shown on Russian TV, within Russia (as was last year's "Ave Maya" gala). In other words, let's keep our eyes & ears open for that.

It seems no one has mentioned about the change of roster here. so I will add some information.

http://www.bolshoi.ru/en/persons/ballet/all/

Nina Kaptsova, Maria Alexandrova and Maria Allash have all moved from Principal to Working under Contract.

Dimitry Gudanov's name has disappeared (he seems to be retired) and also David Hallberg's name is missing.

Some debuts. As well as Kovaleva and Tissi's debut in Swan Lake on September 16th matinee (Soares as the Evil Genius), Marc Chino (winner of Moscow International Competition) in Etudes on September 30th matinee,   Artemy Belyakov as Siegfried on September 17th.

New joiners to the company have not been added to the roster yet. Eleonora Sevenard's name had appeared to be dancing the first variation of Don Quixote on September 19th but now has disappeared.

Seems there has been a wholesale transfer to working under contract within this week. I looked

at this couple of days ago and there weren't this many people under this section !

Soloist Anna Okuneva, who had been particularly outspoken about the cancellation of Nureyev (and also the arrest of Kirill Serebrennikov), has decamped for the Stanislavsky. She had been cast at the Bolshoi for September, but off the top of my head I can no longer remember what she'd been scheduled to dance.

Okuneva had only one performance. I remember she complained about it. She seemed to be progressing nicely (got the Lilac Fairy at one point) but then broke her foot and seemed to have fallen out of favor after that, as she wasnt included in the Japanese tour.

The tour to Costa Mesa happens to fall during the same week as San Diego Comic Con and once again, I think I'll take the cosplayers (assuming I can get tickets again this year).

Keep an eye out for Tatiana Osipova. Clips from her graduation performance of Odette and her photos are ravishingly beautiful. And of course Sevenard. Any others I'm missing?

There is a piece of video on YouTube: "Ave Maria" – Ballerina Tatiana Osipova (Bolshoi Ballet Academy / Bolshoi Theater). She is absolutely amazing!

Report of press conference of Medinsky, Sokhiev, Urin, Vasiev (in Russian) He speaks about prospects of performing "Nureyev", reperoire and new joiners.

http://www.mk.ru/culture/2017/09/12/prapravnuchka-matildy-kshesinskoy-popolnila-truppu-bolshogo-teatra.html

Vaziev hopes that the premiere of the ballet "Nureyev" will be held in December 2017. (but it is uncertain)

He regards the most valuable acquisition is Mark Chino : a unique Russian-Japanese dancer, prize-winner and "golden" winner of many international competitions including Moscow. in September Mark Chino will dance Etudes.

John Neumeier's Anna Karenina  will be shown on the Historical Stage on March 23; ballet "Romeo and Juliet" staged by Alexei Ratmansky (November 22)

as well as a one-act ballet by Jiri Kilian "The Forgotten Land" to the music of "Requiem" by Benjamin Britten.

The premiere of "The Great Petipa" to the 200th anniversary of his birth, scheduled for July 6, 7, 8, is canceled. Vaziev said that in connection with the tragic death of Sergei Vikharev, it does not make sense to conduct it.

As for Petipa's jubilee, on May 31, a gala concert of world ballet stars dedicated to the ballet classics will take place on the Historical Stage.

The ballet "Coppelia" (on the ballet Petipa and Cecchetti) by Sergei Vikharev will be resumed. However, the "premiere" of this renewal, planned earlier on the New Stage on December 14 (now the ballet "The Flame of Paris" is on the playbill), due to the tragic death of the choreographer and the transfer of the ballet "Nureyev" , Coppelia now scheduled to be shown in the second half of the season.

Thanks for the updates. The Vikharev Coppelia is wonderful--I am glad the Bolshoi still plans to stage it. And I hope that staging has a long, long, long life on the stage of the Bolshoi. Other theaters too!!

I also very much hope Nureyev does get a fair showing--and, ideally, a showing at the historic theater, not the new one, as that was what was originally intended. But I will not be holding my breath.

CANCELLING the Petipa celebration?  It can't be done without Vikarev??  At the least, the best way to honor Vikharev's legacy is to go on with "The Great Petipa." Other stagers were always to have been involved and perhaps there are Vikharev stagings, or excerpts from them, that could be featured as well.  Petipa's 200th-anniversary should be celebrated!

And even if the Bolshoi considers its Grigorovich productions of Petipa to be more than adequate "Petipa" and that, therefore, they are "celebrating" Petipa all the time...still, wouldn't it make sense to do something special -- even if nothing more than a gala of highlights with a few less well-known bon-bons thrown in? Oh well.

Casting for the evening :

http://www.bolshoi.ru/en/performances/235/roles/#20170928190000

Not one of my favourites in terms of music and choreo (Ratmansky) but wanted to

invite two friends who helped me get a one year visa enabling me to come and go

at short notice. Had bought tix before casting was posted but cast was OK even good :

Kavalyova who danced the lead in Swan Lake 12 days ago was one of Armida's friends.

Aaaaand - Yulia Stepanova who I will be "viewing to buy" (Turkish idiom) this season

was cast at Mireille ! The leading pairs Shipulina/Lantratov and Savichev/Stashkevich

were OK, though Ship and Stash could benefit from some presence and "allure" if it

came by. Stepanova :  am trying to wipe the slate clean and forget the unacceptable

fouettées I saw last year. This girl imho does have presence and some allure. I was

impressed by her physique and dance, Mireille has no fouettée prescribed so can't

say anythin g at this stage but "Korsar" on 18th October is coming up fast and my

"buyer's eye" will be fully focused at close range !!  At my age I have even less stomach

for diplomatic language and will not be mincing my words one way or another. What's

more I will be seeing Smirnova the next evening to compare characterisation and

execution. Casting for these two "Korsar"s in case anyone is interested :

Except that things may not always work out as planned. The Corsair dates are absent on Smirnova's official website.

Mauvaise langue !!  Just checked and she is on at Balshoy website for 19 October.

However, I am used to Zaharova going awol (2/4) so would not be shocked if

I see someone else manually written in on the cast sheet on the day !
