sandik
The Ailey company sponsors a number of summer workshops for middle-school aged kids that incorporate dance and music classes with personal improvement and empowerment work. They started a new one in Seattle this summer and Crosscut has a nice feature on it. Link to comment
Birdsall
This is sort of related, but I work at a magnet school for the arts that is an elementary school, and the Alvin Ailey company was appearing in town and our arts director was able to get a former Ailey dancer/now instructor come teach elementary kids some basic movement steps (a very basic "Master Class" for total beginners). So they do a lot of work with education. This was a one shot deal but I thought it was worth mentioning. Link to comment
sandik
Absolutely worth mentioning. Arts education programs really took a hit during the recession, and will need to be built back up again, a step at a time. Link to comment
