kfw Posted July 24, 2014 Share Posted July 24, 2014 From a Merce Cunningham Trust email: As part of the ongoing Cunningham Fellowship Program, Jean Freebury (MCDC 1992 - 2003) has been working with a select group of dancers for three weeks to reconstruct Merce Cunningham's Windows (1995). Like all of Cunningham's dances after 1991, Windows was made in part with the use of the LifeForms software. The titles of many of these works (Trackers, Enter, CRWDSPCR) derive from computer language, in this case the "windows" that in many programs divide up the space on the monitor screen and can be moved around in that space. Windows, first given at the Opera Berlioz/Le Corum, Montpellier, France on June 23, 1995, was a company work for fourteen dancers. The musical score was composed by Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta and titled Microcosmos. The backcloth for Windows was taken from an aquatint by John Cage, Global Village 1-36 (Diptych), an etching on gray paper prepared with smoke. The live music for this showing will be a new interpretation of Emanuel Pimenta's Microcosmos, arranged and performed by composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Gelsey Bell. There will be two showings of Windows on Friday, July 25th, at 3:00pm and 4:30pm. The 4:30pm showing will be live-streamed online by the NYU Tisch Dance & New Media program here.
