Quiggin
Thanks Pherank – especially for the photo which really captures the original feeling of the ensemble. I doubt though if Schlemmer would have chosen that vibrant a yellow that's in the first video. I went to a small, slightly dysfunctional Bauhaus school where we were always looking at his works and trying to be influenced by his color choices and austere linework. Here is another set of short but incisive dance recreations, including one that may have influenced Merce Cunningham: http://bauhausdances.org/POLE_DANCE.html Also Schlemmer's Bauhaus stairway painting which used to hang near the Museum of Modern Art's own Bauhaus stairway – but apparently no longer on view ... with links to other Schlemmer works in the collection; http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=80049 Link to comment

I enjoyed the "Bauhaus Dances". I agree with you about the colors used for the Triadische Ballet . Aside from the metallic tones, most of the garish colors are probably not accurate, but I've not seen any color photos of the Triadische Ballet. These photos of a Triadische Ballet display at the Stuttgart Staatsgalerie may be more accurate: http://friedrichstrasse.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html There is also this illustration by Schlemmer: a figure plan for The Triadic Ballet, india ink, watercolor, zinc white, and bronze on paper, 1926 Link to comment
sandik
Thanks so much for the additional illustrations -- I've seen the dances before, and some of the old film clips, but hadn't seen the drawings. A big treat! Link to comment
