NEW YORK CITY BALLET PRESENTS FAMILY SATURDAYS PROGRAM FEATURING EXCERPTS FROM THE SLEEPING BEAUTY FEBRUARY 9, 2013 AT 11:00 AM

Program to Be Led By NYCB Apprentice Silas Farley

On Saturday, February 9 at 11:00 AM, NYCB will present one of its newest programs for families, Family Saturdays, led by NYCB apprentice Silas Farley and featuring NYCB dancers and musicians performing excerpts from Peter Martins’ The Sleeping Beauty. This special program designed for family audiences will offer an advance sneak peek of NYCB’s classic full-length staging of The Sleeping Beauty, before it closes the 2013 Winter Season with two weeks of performances beginning February 13.

Designed for children ages five and older, the program will explore the art of storytelling in ballet, with Farley guiding the audience through the program. Performance selections will include the “Rose Adagio” performed by Aurora and her four suitors, pantomime sequences performed by Carabosse and The Lilac Fairy, the Fairy variations, as well as excerpts with Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood, and the Jesters. Dancers scheduled to perform include NYCB Principal Dancers Rebecca Krohn, and Ana Sophia Scheller, Soloists Erica Pereira, Adrian Danchig-Waring, Antonio Carmena, Chase Finlay, Ask la Cour and Sean Suozzi, and Corps de Ballet Members Megan LeCrone, Lauren Lovette, Georgina Pazcoguin, Zachary Catazaro, Taylor Stanley and Christian Tworzyanski, among others.

Current NYCB apprentice, Silas Farley, taught his first ballet class at the age of thirteen as a student at North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance. Last year he was one of two advanced students at the School of American Ballet to be chosen by Peter Martins, NYCB Ballet Master in Chief, to teach classes as part of a new student teaching program. Farley began his early dance training with Sal and Barbara Messina in Charlotte, North Carolina, and, at nine, enrolled at North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance. At 14, Silas received a scholarship to SAB’s 2008 Summer Course and was invited to enroll as a full-time student that fall. He performed the principal male role in Cortege Hongrois at SAB's June 2012 Workshop Performances at Lincoln Center. Farley joined NYCB in the summer of 2012 as an apprentice. Also a choreographer since age 11, Silas has created ballets to music by Gustav Holst for SAB’s 2010 and 2011 Student Choreography Workshops.

Family Saturdays programs take place at the David H. Koch Theater (entrance at West 63rd Street and Columbus Avenue). Tickets are $20 per person (both children and adults), and are available at the David H. Koch Theater box office, online at nycballet.com, or by calling 212-496- 0600.
