News about Miami City Ballet's 2008-08 season

Subscription renewals have just arrived. Here's what's been announced -- a "sneak peek at our 23rd season" -- 2008-09 season. A nice photo of Mary Carmen Catoya -- peeking over her Kitri fan with those huge almond-shaped eyes of hers -- is featured on the brochure. There are 3 company premieres and a revival of their full-length Don Q.

N.B. unscheduled but "planned," include the company premiere of the Balanchine Swan Lake, Act II :blushing: , and a revival of La Sonnambula. All performances will have a live orchestra. There are 4 perfomances (Friday evening, Saturday matinee and evening, and Sunday matinee) at each theater.

Program I: Includes a revival of the Tharp In the Upper Room

Arsht Center, Miami: Oct. 17-19

Broward Center, Fort Lauderdale: Nov. 7-9

Kravis Center West Palm Beach, Nov. 14-16

Program II:Includes company premiere of Paul Taylor's Mercuric Tidings (Schubert)

Kravis Center: West Palm Beach, Dec. 5-7

Arsht Center, Miami: Jan 9-11

Broward Center, Fort Lauderdale: Jan 16-18

Balanchine Nutcracker.

Skipping West Palm Beach this year. The local company, Ballet Florida, has dibs on the Kravis for Christmas week (10 performances normally), so MCB has been foisted off with a few days at the start of December.

Arsht Center: (7 performances)

Program III: Full-length Don Quixote (Petipas, not Balanchine)

Arsht Center, Miami: Feb. 6-8

Broward Center, Fort Lauderdale: Feb. 13-15

Kravis Center, West Palm Beach: Feb. 20-22

Program IV: Including company premiere of In the Night (Robbins/ Chopin).

Broward Center, Fort Lauderdale: March 13-15

Kravis Center, West Palm Beach: March 27-29

Arsht Center, Miami: April 3-5.
