Daniel Wakin of the New York Times News Service in the Berkshire Eagle on belt-tightening at American Ballet Theatre:

NEW YORK -- American Ballet Theater is freezing pay, cutting positions and canceling tour performances in a wave of cost-cutting measures that it says are putting the company back on the road to financial health.

About 50 staff members will take a one-week furlough without pay, and many will not receive raises this year. Thanksgiving-week performances at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in California were canceled because of the high cost of putting on shows during a holiday. And the company's general manager was dismissed in a move that the troupe said was among cost-saving measures imposed even as the company has grown in dancers, number of performances and time spent touring.

This is a reprint of an article which ran in the New York Times earlier this fall...and I also seem to remember discussion somewhere on this board about that very article as well. The article notes a byline of "New York Times News Service" so it seems like a wire story that was pulled and reprinted for whatever reason.
