  1. I think a good start would be a course dealing with dance psychology. Namely being aware of body dysmorphic disorders, the stress and strain of performing, and how to tell a dancer what they need to work on amicably.
  2. I just wanted to make a comment about this particluar DVD. It has been discussed in the past that the camera does not show dancers well because is records things in a 2 dimentional space instead of the 3 dimentional view of the human eye. I think the cinematographer did a great job in this case. For the first time, I saw a dvd that actually makes the illusion that you are watching a 3 dimentional performance. I have seen many plays and dance performances, and I honestly could not see a difference except for the editing of the scenes, between watching a performance up close and personal and this dvd. Perhaps others taping dance could learn something from this dvd. I did not particularly like the version of the ballet, and in my opinion, it should have been called something other than swan lake as most of the action does not even take place around the swan motif as it always does in the original version. But I think this DVD has merit for those who want to learn to record dance in the most true way possible.
  3. Also, a new author on the scene is a writer named Kat Corbett- she has written 2 books so far and both of them are really great. She is easily found on amazon or barnes and nobel
  4. My choice is also not on the list. I have seen the others via video, I wish I could have seen them live. But I honestly would ahve loved to see Maria Tallchief dance. As far as I know, I don't think any of her dancing is on video.
  5. Though another thought is that the advent of digitally produced images. A high quality digital video camera, usually used in the making of independant film, comes equipped with a special lens that enables the tape to have a more three dimentional quality. That is also what they use when producing major effects masterpieces. You would just have to make sure to get a high quality camera with a 3 crystal lens and make sure that you can edit it on a computer. That will preserve the integrity of the three dimentionality of the recording. Then what has been recorded can be transferred to video tape, vcd, or dvd. That would probably be the most effective way to tape dance. I know that most television still uses the older analog cameras and that would account for the one dimentional look of the performance. The only drawback is that a system to edit the digital video will cost you around 3,000 dollars including the Firewire card, then the editing software is another 700-800 dollars, then this type of camera runs about 5-7 thousand dollars. The only other thing I can say is that I am glad that my other specialty, independant filmmaking, can possibly help with some information for those here on the board.
  6. Well, maybe we can all e-mail A&E about releasing it on video or more preferably DVD as DVD lasts longer. Goodness knows I would love to have a copy of it.
  7. That is a shame, I think they should be released to video and dvd. If for nothing else, preservation services.
  8. About 10 years ago on A&E, Natalia Makarova hosted a documentary series called "Ballerina". It was a really great documentary. I was wondering if anyone knew if it has been released on video or DVD.
  9. The only other thing that i do know about it is that currently it is out of print, perhaps I can find it on ebay or some other source.
  10. I am wondering if anyone has a copy of this film. I believe Maureen O'Hara is in it. It was on tuner Classic Movies awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't get that channel. The plot seemed rather interesting though.
  11. Why not combine Giselle with a production of the silent film Nosferatu. Albrecht could be Harker, or even Renfield. The willies could be the vampire brides. And Hilarion could be Nosferatu himself. Complete with a sndtk by the vampire band Type O Negative. Though using specially created songs for the production unlike the dub job they did when they matched the silent film to Type O Negative music that was never intended for the purpose.

  13. I also just purchased a newly released film called"black tights". It is narrated by Maurice Chevailier. IN it Moira Shearer, Cyd Cherisse, and Zizi Jeanmarie dance 3 different scenes. It can be purchased at both Amazon and Barnes and Nobel.
  14. Well Kevin I wrote Jacqeuline and she hasn't seen any, but she said if she found one she would let me know. At least that is more people looking for it.
  15. Thank you Kevin! I will try writing her tonight!
