This summer, Lincoln Center's schedule is full of exhilarating dance programs including the biggest names in modern dance! July 12, 14-15, 9:00pm Emanuel Gat Dance Winter Voyage/ The Rite of Spring Fusing Cuban salsa with Stravinsky (with nods to Nijinsky), Emanuel Gat, the evocative Israeli choreographer, presents The Rite of Spring, a burning, surprising, and savage fertility ritual. Completing the program is Winter Voyage, a duet set to three selections from Winterreisse, Schubert’s anguished song cycle. Jones/ Arnie Zane Dance Company Blind Date In the hands of choreographer Bill T. Jones, dance becomes an extraordinary tool for probing life’s big questions. Blind Date asks hard, sensitive and often subtle questions about honor, sacrifice, duty and loyalty in a world threatened by nationalistic fervor and spiritual righteousness. LaGuardia Concert Hall Tickets: $50 July 20-22, 8:00pm Batsheva Dance Company Telophaza Batsheva’s Artistic Director, Ohad Naharin, leads this pre-eminent Israeli dance company in a powerful and penetrating performance of his latest work. Humorous and joyful, at once intimate and grand, Telophaza showcases the Batsheva Dance Company and Naharin at the height of their powers. New York State Theater Tickets: $25, 40, 55, 65 July 21& 22, 8:00pm Saburo Teshigawara Bones in Pages The air is charged as Saburo Teshigawara fuses sculpture with dance, air, space and time, redefining the parameters of space in an infinite series of movements. A cult figure in Japan, this prolific artist has achieved iconic status throughout Europe. Festival 2006 provides a rare opportunity to witness this “magician of movement” (The Times Literary Supplement) exhibit his rare gifts. Rose Theater Tickets: $20, 35, 50 July 25, 8:00pm San Francisco Ballet Opening Night Celebration Recently named Company of the Year 2005 by Dance Europe magazine, San Francisco Ballet, a vibrant and gifted company, comes to Festival 2006 to showcase an extraordinary range of ballets. New York State Theater Tickets: $30, 45, 60, 75 July 26-28, 8:00pm San Francisco Ballet Sylvia Under the guidance of Helgi Tomasson, one of the great Balanchine dancers, this renowned company premieres its lavish production of Sylvia, created by Mark Morris. The result is “an enchanting blend of movement and vocabularies and a wondrous demonstration of the power of tonal nuance” (Financial Times). New York State Theater Tickets: $30, 45, 60, 75 July 29, 8:00pm July 30, 3:00pm San Francisco Ballet Repertory Program The mixed-repertory program includes Forsythe’s Artifact Suite, which had its U.S. premiere by the company in spring 2006. Also on the program is Christopher Wheeldon’s Quaternary, called a “jewel” by the London Observer when San Francisco Ballet premiered the work in Paris in 2005, as well as Helgi Tomasson’s 7 for Eight, proclaimed “stunning” by the San Francisco Chronicle upon its 2004 premiere. New York State Theater Tickets: $30, 45, 60, 75 July 27& 29, 7:00pm Yasmeen Godder Strawberry Cream and Gunpowder Born in Israel, brought up in New York City, choreographer Yasmeen Godder occupies a special place in Israeli performance, as she brings her theatrical sensibility to making art on the front lines. In Strawberry Cream and Gunpowder, Godder stages the rawly emotional images seen every day in newspapers and on television. LaGuardia Drama Theater Tickets: $35 Coming in August to the Mostly Mozart Festival: Mozart Dances Mark Morris Dance Group World Premiere This season, Mostly Mozart Festival audiences will be treated to the world premiere of a piece commissioned by Lincoln Center that combines the recognizable genius of Mark Morris with the interpretative gifts of Louis Langrée and Emanuel Ax. Set to Mozart piano works, Mozart Dances is performed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and features pianist Emanuel Ax performing with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra led by Maestro Langrée. With the collaboration of these exquisite performers, Mozart Dances is certain to provide fresh insight into Mozart’s music.
